As GW has added new Races, has Net Epic followed suit?

I mean, I know it has deviated from GW. Squats still live for example. Slann have an army list.

So I am curious, are the Tau the same as GW cannon?

If not, what changes have you made.

Hi!

The first "official" NetEpic list has been made available with 5.0's release. The list is pretty much in accordance with GW's fluff and more importantly giving stats to all the models made available from FW. We also added a list of creations of "possible" FW additions to their minis line as well as larger "anti-titan" units. So I'd say its mainly following known GW units, but there is the usual creative "liberties" added. :)

You can download them at the usual place.

Sounds great, I believe I may need to shift more effort to "learning" netepic. :;):

There are differences in the "standard" lists as well. The Sisters of Battle list, for example,  is very different from the GW one.

Oh I know the lists are different. I just had not seen the Tau one and was more interested in if they had changed the background and if so, how.

NetEpic must, by force, deviate from GW if they are to allow many of the things they do. You can not have Squats for example, without a rewrite of something.

Hi!

True. THe biggest background departure was the Slann, which in that case the "necrons" are actually servile AI's made to fight against the Tyranid threat. Perhaps when real necrons are introduced we'll change the name of the slann AI's (slandroids or something like that) to accomodate.

There have been some attempts at making a "unified" netepic fluff with all the different knick-knacks. Perhaps we can try that now....

I think this is one of the major problems with complex background data and many different written sources by many differetn writers. The ability to resolve all of them into one whole is just , well, hard.

I see how hard it is to keep real history accurate, I can not imagine doing so for a world where one magazine article later whole races vanish. :;):

Hi!

Actually the problem has less to do than revising the fluff and more with what the netepic fans will permit anyone to "change". I'm in the camp to ditch GW fluff and basically re-write the whole thing to suit our needs. There will be of course certain consistency (there will be an Emperor, Hours Heresy, major things like that), but much minutea would be redone.

Squats for example would be an offshoot human races, but since they evolved way back in the age of strife would have actual understanding of technology and practice the scientific method. Very Guild oriented. No tyrnanids would have magically "wiped them out".

The Tau would be another Slann experiment in "fast evolution". How to produce a sentient space faring race in thousands not millions of years. They would be the new favored race of the slann replacing the Eldar.

Perhaps even advancing the timeline, the emperor dies and the aftermath. Stuff like that.

Wow, you are talking major shifts. This could change the "Scope" of the historical time line. :O

Sounds fun!

Either great minds think alike or you remembered my suggestion from the ancient times when we last tried to unify the background.  :)

A few minor changes then  :p  :p

The Emperor dying would be a little extreme perhaps- after all, without him there is no Astronomicon, and therfeore no space travel for humans not wanting to be possesed by Chaos! - A bit of a dampner on any possible continued Imperium....  :blues:

Obviously I have been mind-warped but I thought that WAS the official background!

Cheers

I certainly find the idea of rewriting fluff to make it consistent very appealing. This kind of goes along with the other thread on "what we would change." Since NetEpic is based on SM2, but has already deviated from GW's fluff (e.g Squats), I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be possible to to do a major rewrite as long as major events/themes are maintained. Personally, I feel that it is more important that NetEpic is consistent with itself, rather than the myriad of GW's fluff, some of which contradicts itself or is downright silly.

Well if we can come up with something different to solve that problem... Maybe the Illuminati figure out a way of stabilizing the Navigator gene making Navigators less vulnerable to the influence of the Warp.
The first examples of the psychic "new Man" race emerges. They're prosecuted by the remenant of the Imperium who sees them as dangerous heretics but perhaps they are becoming so common that entire factions of the Imperium break away. I think it would make for a nice fresh start where there's plenty of room to come up withh a bunch of new stuff.

Cheers! :)

I started that thread because of where this one was going. I like the idea very much. Having a background that makes sense and is logical for the setting is a great idea.
