I was just wondering (read: curious, and don't tell me about cats -I'm allergic to them), do you play a "named" army (Dark Angels, Ultramarines, Alaitoc, Thousand Sons etc.) or have you made your own units/chapters/craftworlds/whatever?

I play Ultramarines, the greatest chapter ever!!
As for my (unassembled) guard, I'm thinking of the 5th Armageddon Steel Legion. Kind of a mix of real and made up I suppose.
Cheers
Chris

90% of the time, it is my own forces. I like putting together the background, colour scheme and theme, and having something that is unique and that I can tailor to my own playing style.

Ultramarines.. The only "real" chapter....
I also play Ulthwe Eldar, and I am planning on Cadians when Epic:A comes out... I have invented my own Titan legion though, and my Imperial fleet for BFG has it's own colour scheme, and I am currently dreaming up some fluff for it..

I think that's the goal of collecting so many figures: to build all of the named armies. At Epic 6mm scale, it's very possible.
I have all of the intial SMs except the Wolves and have built many of the other forces as well.
I built my first batch of IGs before there was a lot of background. I built some later ones based upon a created unit and the current batch is based on Armageddon fluff.
Orks are much more fun to build as tribes than random hordes. Go Bad Moonz!
I like a little extra fluff and background. It helps get my imagination going.
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

Since I collect all the armies, including Squats and Tau, most of my forces are right out of the G/W "fluff". ?
I have 6 SM Regts, UM, BA, DA, 2 SW & Salamanders.
All 6 IG Regts, have numerical designations of Regts/Bdes, I served with a long time ago. ?
The Squats have all Germanic names and some from Norse mythology. ?
All my Orks are right out of the G/W fluff.
My Traitor SMs are the same. ?
My Eldar include the 6 original Craft Worlds (including Lugannath, very old school) + Exodites. ?
The Chaos Powers all have their own SM Legions with suitably dark & evil names.
The 'Nids are just "bugs" (!) and my Tau & Kroot are still under construction...

Oh yeah.. I am also planning on making the Ork stuff I have into Goffs- they have a simple and effective colour scheme.
I build my armies so as to be suitably 'fluffy' and I usually use GW colour schemes, unless I can think of something better, or an improvment that I can make.

I'm with you netepic- DA rule! 90% of my marines are DA, the other 10% are the Flesh Tearer Assault dets I am building now to make my army not quite so...green
My Imperial Guard forces are under aquisition programme to upgrade them, but I plan to paint different companies up as different ones from fluff, including some from the Gaunts Ghosts series. Inparticular there shall be at least one company from the Hyrkan Regt with one Commissar-general Otkar and Commissar-Cadet Gaunt

Well, I've been an Ultramarine since I first saw an old Rogue Trader advertizement in some wargaming magazine.
In fact, I believe I am Lord Macragge. ?
I also like the Altoic Eldars and love the Dark Eldar. Since GW really never went into describing any different Dark Eldar (ugh, forgot what they called their armies...), I made up my own. They are black and Warlock purple and look far better then GW's studio colors.

Hi!
Ah! A fellow Ultramarine fan!
I too love Ultramarines, most of the tens of thousands of SM points I got in epic are painted in Ultramarine colors. I live their "orthodoxy". They seem pretty non-cheesy as compared to Blood Angels, Space Wolves and the rest who have been beaten to death. I also like that they bear the brunt of the Tyranid fights, instead of the old cliche of chaos.
Netepic has had several Dark Eldar lists floating around, but they had lost out to the Tau, since minis are available. Perhaps the availability of X-vehicles may rekindle the flame for an army list.
