You may have seen Yahoo's announcement that they will be shutting down Yahoo Groups:

https://help.yahoo.com/kb/groups/SLN31010.html

This means that all of the messages posted to the "NetEpic" group since 1999 will disappear from the Web.

I'm in the process of archiving the entire mailing list, and once it's completed I'll post it up on NetEpic.org.

If you ever posted any content (including files, pictures, documents etc) you may want to log in to your Yahoo account and download them all for safekeeping since my backup script won't capture them. Instructions are on the Yahoo help page above.

I just remembered that there was another mailing list which predated NetEpic, the "Space Marine" group which goes back much further in time. So I'm archiving that now as well.

I just downloaded all of the files in the NetEpic Mailing List yahoo group (except for the EA detachment cards) to my computer, so they will be available if needed.

I have all the message files now, but I want to create a searchable Web index of them. Currently hacking on some scripts to generate Web pages from the messages...

There does not appear to be a way to get to the archive from the netepic.org website, only via the direct link. I assume someone is going to fix that.

Wow, people really didn’t like the ‘new’ bases.

Do we have a similar resource for the original Epic: Armageddon rules development forums?

It's a great example how human nature doesn't change. People could go nuts about stuff like this decades before Facebook and Twitter made it easy for them to do so!

Was there a Yahoo Group? I can run my script again if there is.

I have hazy memory of there being a Yahoo group for epic I general or 3rd edition that would have been at the same time as the netepic group, did I imagine it?

I also struggle to remember exactly the timeline of the various forums, from that time through to the speclist games playtesting forum (the only one I remember my username on), specialist-arms and tactical command.

Thanks for the work.

It is also interesting to see how people complain about GW back in 1996 for the same reasons were used since 20xx while saying that GW did not do that before, but in 1996 people say that GW was doing the same already for a long time. We see things through rose coloured glass indeed when it has to do with the edition we first begun in.
