Howdy, NetEpic players! So I have offered to assist Primarch in the role of Army Book Champion (unofficial title). I hope to be able to bring to fruition a couple of key things. - The long-awaited Net Epic: Gold Optionals Book - Kick off Army Book Development for NE:NG (NE:P/NE:E or whatever the future brings) So, first things first, the long awaited "Optionals Book" What it is: - A project to capture the most recent fluff units (and drastically changed units) from 40K, HH, and IA - Covered units will maintain a strong similarity to how the 40K Unit works, but within the boundaries and abstractions of the NetEpic Rules (with potential minor re-alignments of unit power to make them fit.) - Good research and data capture will push the NE:NG books forward as well. - The last and only "living" piece of NetEpic:Gold moving forward. It has been made clear that all other NE:G Books are in a finalized state (aside from clarifications and corrections) - A real project with regular update goals (Going to try to run as sort-of an Agile process) What it is not: - A rewrite of the existing army books - A dartboard of guesses or estimations of how the units will be represented - An attempt to capture all units from 40k fluff back to Rogue Trader (we will be focused on 5th-7th Ed, HH and IA volumes which are still "Legal" as of Early-2016) - Vapourware - Quagmire - a chore How you can help: 1) Familiarize yourself at a high level with current canon Wikipedia link of Current 40K books https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codex_%28 ... rent_Books 2) Choose a List to help with (I am sure there are tons more): Adepta Sororitas Astra Militarum Cadia (Astra Militarum) Chaos Daemons Chaos Space Marines Black Legion (Chaos Space Marines) Crimson Slaughter (Chaos Space Marines) Craftworlds Cult Mechanicus Skitarii Dark Eldar Haemonculus Covens (Dark Eldar) Grey Knights Harlequins Legiones Astartes - Crusade Legiones Astartes - Age of Darkenss Imperial Militia (30K) Imperial Knights Inquisition Khorne Daemonkin Legion of the Damned Militarum Tempestus Mechanicum Necrons Orks Waaagh! Hi Sounds very good! Do you plan to work on some sort of template system for people to use? Im considering a excel sheet type thing to tap data into, such that it is easy to hook into the points system, change layouts and so forth ? OmniJackel brings up some good points in an other tread and mayhaps due to my lacking english skills I have difficulty understanding if: -Streamlining of weapon effects are in the optional books? -Change of move and fire ranges are in optional books? Cheers Jens I am working to develop a standard conversion method, but that has challenges rooted in the over-use of special rules by the 40K ruleset. What I have been doing so far is going book by book and making a separate spreadsheet for each book with all of the 40K pertinent unit info. I am focusing on 6th-7th, IA and HH (I think all of 5th has been superseded by now). Eventually I want it all back to RT for Platinum, but for the Optionals book I am limiting scope. The core units to focus on are units that are not covered by NE currently or have substantially changed in gameplay or power since NE. Example here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1A9dWOS5oaBqyK6wN6e5i6gFTeXqfqlHz19WbW-cL168/edit?usp=sharing A couple of notes: I combine the troop counts (if it says "3 units" (may add up to 9)) then I say "3-12 units" I would prefer paraphrased descriptions, but I have been copying them verbatim. We will have to paraphrase prior to publishing. Please be respectful of the spirit of IP rules and don't sling this information around in a raw form too much. As to the other questions, WE will need to look at fitting things "back in the Box", so to speak, for NetEpic. NetEpic, being based on SM/TL 2nd Ed has a very distinct set of abstractions and homogenization. We will try to maintain the individual flavor of the units in 40K while making them fit in the existing ruleset. I am not out to rock the boat as far as NE:G goes. Long term for NE:P we will have the breathing room to make more substantive changes , if they are warranted MM <MEGA EDITS> |
