Post subject: | Hello from a Newbie! |
Just though I would post and say hello. I was a long time 40K player who sold his Space Wolves and Eldar armies along time ago (before I went to uni) During my 40K phase, I also bought Space Marine epic, Titan Legions and Blood Bowl + Dungeon Bowl but sadly could never find anyone to play. I did dabble and paint some of it though. After seeing the prices that decent Space Marine Mk 6 army will fetch on ebay I headed out to my folks to see if there was any of it still kicking about. There wasnt ![]() If anyone is located in Scotland, more specifically Aberdeenshire and fancies showing me the ropes let me know! On a seperate note, having skim read the EA, Space Marine, and NetEpic rules, whats the major diffrences?? I am sure this has been covered on here a million times! Thanks guys |

Hi! Welcome to the boards! As for the rules, EA was the last ruleset developed from GW, which is now maintained though the fans with the netEA project. Netepic is based on the 2nd edition space marine rules. However much has been modified through the 16 years it has been maintained. To the degree you shouldn't assume that it plays the same (it doesn't). But you will recognize the basic rules for the game (CAF, hit location templates, etc). I'm not sure which version of space marine you referred to, but first edition space marine (paired with adeptus titanicus) does not have a fan supported version I am aware of. The three versions have distinct rules with emphasis on different aspects of epic play. Netepic will be the most recognizable to you if you played second edition space marine, but EA will will give you a good play experience as well. It all depends on where your tastes lie. ![]() Primarch |

NetEpic is pretty close to this, although as Primarch says, they are not identical by any means, as I've been discovering myself. If you're familiar with the second edition rules though, then NetEpic is easier to learn than EA. |

Aw right? Welcome tae ra forum! I had a very similar background, I played Epic back in the 90's and fell away from the game just as they were about to release the Tyranids. While I lost touch with what was happening with Epic, I happily played for years with the 2nd Edition Space Marine rules. I recently stumbled across the forum and was very impressed with the NetEpic Gold rules. It's a ruleset which is based upon old 2nd edition SM but with a few subtle changes that I think improve the system. If you are familiar with 2nd edition SM you'll find this system easiest to pick up. I've yet to play Epic Armageddon but from what I have read the key difference is that instead of doing all movement then combat, in EA you take turns in moving and firing units and that you can reduce the effectiveness of enemy units with suppressing fire. That is a gross oversimplification of the system but hopefully it will give you the basic idea. From my time here it seems most players favour E:A but I'm sticking with NetEpic until I can find another player willing to give E:A a try. Frustratingly, while I am looking for fellow Scots to play against, I live at the opposite end of the country! Hope you find a local opponent! Cheers! |
