Hey guys; out of curiousity and to teach myself a little something extra i'd like to do a batrep whereby we try out both current versions of epic for comparison. What i need from you guys is a hand with army list writing; for my first game i'd like to play a 4000pt standard scenario with vanilla esque Marines Vs vanilla esque Guard. If anyone can help i've listed what's available to me below :-) It would be good if each list were balanced and neither purposefully built to wreck the other! MARINES 8 Terminator Stands 24 Tactical Stands 8 Assault Stands 8 Devastor Stands 4 Scout Stands (enough character stands to join the above) 20 Rhino's 6 Razorbacks 4 Predators 4 Whirlwinds 4 Vindicators 8 Land Raiders 2 Thunderhawks 1 Landing Craft 1 Strike Cruiser -Drop Pods 4 Dreadnoughts 10 Bike stands(2 attack bikes) 5 of each type of landspeeder IMPERIAL GUARD 60 Infantry and commanders etc 16 Jump Pack troops 8 Stormtroopers 12 Rough Riders 8 Ogryns 8 Sentinels 20 Leman Russ 8 Chimera 2 Shadowswords 5 Hydra 6 Basilisk 3 Manticore 2 Deathstrike 8 Valkyrie 4 Vulture 8 Fire support AIRCRAFT AND TITANS 3 Warlords 2 Warhounds Many Thunderbolts 3 Maruaders Help needed and appreciated greatly! If your feeling extra lazy take a look at the britcon lists. They are all 4,000 points. http://www.epic-uk.co.uk/ukepicachampio ... rit09.html Only one guard list but 3 marine lists. |

Marine List Warlord 500 Warlord 500 Tac Comp 750 Bat Comp 850 Term Det 350 Term Det 350 Whirlwind Det 150 Bike Det 150 Bike Det 150 Thunder Hawk 100 Thunder Hawk 100 Razorbacks 400 Land Raiders 250 It's a bit detachment heavy, I prefer company heavy armies but it'll give you a 4.6k list without the cost of the Warlord weapons. A 4k army is however much easier. Warlord 500 + 450 pts for weapons and/or another detachment Tac Comp 750 Bat Comp 850 Term Det 350 Whirlwind Det 150 Bike Det 150 Bike Det 150 Thunder Hawk 100 Thunder Hawk 100 Land Raiders 250 Land Speeders 200 Solid infantry, fast melee and fire support units, thunder hawks for smacking the assault det and one tactical det down on the guard artillery, terminators for solid as nails objective assault force. Whirlwinds to rain on the massed guard units and spare land raiders to act as a MBT assault force. |

Bad me for not looking were this was posted ![]() Back in the SM2 days I think I used to play 6,000 for an evenings game. Probably even got lists as I used to keep them in a notebook so I could keep track of VP's during games. |

I like company heavy armies because you get bulk discounts with them - I should have stated that before... |

Generic Space Marine Army 4000 Points. ............... ![]() Here's the problem, you don't have a lot of stuff to represent lots of Companies. With what you do have however, this is what I would do. Veteran Company (18x Veterans, 1x HQ, 10x Rhino)......850 points Dreadnought Detachment (Any type or combination)......100 points Thunderhawk...........................................100 points Thunderhawk...........................................100 points Razorback Detachment (6x Razorbacks - replace 3x Rhino)..400 points Close Combat Terminators (4x Termi + 2x Land Raiders)...300 points Warhound Scout Titan Pack (2x Warhound Titans)..........250 points (both with 2x Vulcan Mega Bolters each).......200 points Battle Company...................................850 points (6x Assault, Tactical + Devastators + HQ and 10 Rhinos) Bike Detachment (5x Bikes)..............................150 points Bike Detachment (5x Bikes)..............................150 points Land Speeder Squadron (5x any type).....................200 points Whirlwind Artillery OR Hunter AA Battery (3x)....150 points Vindicators (3x Vindicators)............................150 points Apothecary OR Chaplain.................................50/75 points* (*Chaplain will take you to 4025 but it's within the legal limit.) There, that at least is what you can field and should have something for everyone. |

Sounds fairly solid for the Marines. As for the guard: Well it's been a long time so I'm not completely up to date, but something like this: Infantry company 600 sentinels 150 Shadowsword 225 Shadowsword 225 Infantry Company 600 Basilisks 200 Basilisks 200 Manticores 200 Hydras 300 Assault Company 300 Rough Riders 200 Russ Company 550 Ogryns 125 Ogryns 125 Chimeras 100 Chimeras 100 Storm Troopers (borrow a couple of Marine Rhinos for this) 250 Russ Company 550 You could then add Marauders and T-bolts as you please and throw a titan in there for good measure. Basically infantry and artilly stay at the back and shoot. Russes lend mobile firepower where it is needed with one formation gaining some assault capabilities. finally the Assault company..well... assaults and take objectives and stuff. You could ditch some of the russes or shave down the assaulty Russ company for more Titan power (If this is meant to be a show-off game for Non-Epic players then that might be a good idea). I'll leave it to more seasoned veterans to fine tune that list ![]() |

I think it would be extraordinarily unusual for a standard Marine player not to take Devestators....they are basically a mandatory choice.  A classic IG foot slogger army is also pretty simple - Tac, Heavy and Arty companies.  Shadowswords are almost too good not to take (although if you knew you were playing marines you might not ) and I prefer Rough Riders over Bikes or Assault troops.  Vanilla "play anyone" 4000 point Marine force: Devestator Company  1000 + Apothacary 50 Scout Company 450 + Thunderhawks x2 200 + Thunderbolts 250 Tactical Company 750 + Warlord (FCC, Plasma Destructor, Chain Fist x2) 750 Bike Company 450 + Librarian 100 Vanilla Imperial Guard 4000 points Tactical Company 600 + Inquisitor 100 Heavy Company 600 + Reaver (Volcano, Volcano, MRL) 550 Artillery Company 600 + Hydras 300 Shadow Sword Company 650 Rough Rider Company 600 So, I think MoK will struggle to build what I'd consider a normal NE army for either side without doing a bit of "counts as". Still, an interesting experiment. |

Yes. Devastator Company. But he only has eight stands so although there are cookies, you may not have one.  ![]() (Yes, I know you know he doesn't have enough). |

Actually, IIRC those whacky E:A players put Devestators on their tactical stands, so as long as he can remember what's what he could do a Dev company ![]() |

Oh yeah, that's true. Hey, MoK! Take a Devastator Company and drop the Battle Company and a detachment of bikes. Thanks Zap. |

Crikey; it's a little different over here: though i am looking forward to seeing how it all works. I'm going to give the rules a full read through in the next couple of weeks in between boating so as i'll have a better idea of how it all works but thanks for the advice so far guys :-) In the meantime i'm reading a friends old copy of Space Marine: BAttles which is a little odd if not entertaining... |
