To get back to adam77's idea regarding veriosn numbers. I understand you want to avoid these.
But what about a timestamp? This would make things enormously easier.

I would propose the following:

time_stamp in filename, so that one can easily see whether it's a new version or not:

netepicgold_2009_10_30.pdf

time stamp on the lower right corner of the contents page, maybe in a smaller font size:

30.10.09

or something similar.

This would save us from a lot of confusion....

found an errata for the IG book, the sample armys Leman Russ Company is stated as 750 there.
