Hello, I'm just getting back into Epic after a looooooooooooooooong time out, and trying to figure out which rules to use (Space Marine vs NetEpic vs Armaggedon). Is SM very different to NetEpic? Thanks, Adam |

There are a lot of good points to NetEpic that in Space Marine needed fixed. I use the NetEpic rules, I have personal issues with some of the latest lists, but enough about that. The core rules are sound. EDIT: Oops, and welcome aboard! ![]() |

Cool, so what are some of those bits that have been fixed? |

The major change is alternating unit activations for movement; no more "I move my entire army, then you move yours". While this slows the game down somewhat, the improvement in the game is well worth it. After that there are numerous smaller changes and after a while it is hard to remember what's new ![]() - Titan now are pretty much invulnerable to close assault from anything less than a knight class unit. They get anti-infantry weapons and only knights and above get to gang up on titans. - Praetorians get hit location templates. - Superheavies get a special save - The old "can move and shoot and also can't be shot at" command unit mechanic is split into 2 discrete abilities now. Some units get the targetting protection (HQ), some can move and shoot (Command) and some units get both. - Tyranids are organised and given orders in a completely new way - Chaos is huge - There are something like 52 different army lists you can use to build an army |

I'd give the difference rulesets a whirl and see what you prefer if I were you. I used to love playing SM back in my youth but I vastly prefer the Epic Armageddon ruleset now (the full rules can be downloaded for free for it from the GW website); it's a fantastic game, more tactically complex than special rules complex, and it's what the majority of people play these days. Hope you have fun getting back into epic! ![]() |

I would certainly echo Glyn's preference for Epic:Armageddon: it's sleek, feels quite realisitc, and is immense tactical fun to play! Although not having played NetEpic i can't really comment but by reading through the rules and thinking back to SM i always get the feeling it's a little clumsy for my (personal) taste...But hey; give them all a go and do what works for you :-) R> |

Another big difference is that you don't reveal a detachment's order counter until you activate that detachment. Welcome to the boards, Adam. |

Chaps: it's a question about which rules set to use; although topic'ed as NetEpic (which i'm reading again right now actually to give a spin) EA does come into the equation ![]() |

Lol that would be quite a handy ability in a soldier  ![]() Quote: zap123: While some of us find it simplistic and the fact most units can move further than they can shoot kinda silly......don't troll please. C'mon now Zap I think calling my post trolling is a bit unreasonable - Adam posted asking for advice as to which system to use and specifically mentioned Epic Armageddon as one of the possibilities. On that basis offering a range of perspectives in this thread seems perfectly appropriate and I did suggest he tried all the different systems and made his own mind up. I'm tempted to offer a response to the things you comment you regard as silly in EpicA, but I'll resist I think, don't want to risk antagonising things. We each play our different systems which we most enjoy and are fans of and that's all for the good ![]() |

No, it wasn't Trolling. Man, has the EA crowd become so desperate they have to poach for players? I guess it's just not working out to be such a widely played game then. Well, I guess I know how that feels from past experience. Look, it's all Epic. Therefore it's all good. There's something for everybody. We don't diss the EA lads and we expect the same respect in return. And in front of a new potential as well, for shame. Tut!  ![]() Adam77, try the rules, for any of these games. See what you like and take it from there. This lot usually get on better than this, when they can behave. |
