I have been contemplating making a Squat tunneller company + tunneller support and specials (and trying to get 10 Termites is a pain....why oh why don't the Squats have a Mole company like the IG  :(  ).  When looking at the Mole and its cousin the Ram I wondered why they weren't superheavy.  The actual model is pretty big and I don't think there's anything else that can carry 10 stands that isn't a Preatorian.  Just a thought.

Also, should there be rules for the Mole (and Termite) Carrier/Launcher vehicle?  They don't even exist as far as the rules are concerned and that seems somewhat weird.

Moles certainly seem superheavy to me.  Dunno about Rams- never seen one.

I thought the lack of launcher stats were a known errata?  But I'm not sure where I got that idea from.

Hellbore launcher stats were in v4's Imperial Armies Unit Summary.  4+ save, 0 CAF, hvy bolters 1 25cm 6+ 0.  This should probably be superheavy (if not Preatorian in itself- but that would be a mostly pointless template.).

Oddly I thought Termites & Moles had stats for them in Space Marine.  But apparently not.  I always assumed they used the stats for the hellbore transporter, as the stats are pathetic: 5+ save 0 CAF - nothing else.  I think these would do.

Also Core Rules says all launchers are Forward Observer's after their tunnellers have surfaced.

Why would squats only use termite companies  :confuse:   I thought in the old days tunnellers were squat designed or something.

Yeah, I'd expect the launchers to be mostly speed bumps, but Forward Observer is good.

I'll have to dig back through my SM2 cards to see if that's what they got back then.  Gotta say turning up 10 Termites and 15 Berserker stands must make it one of the harder companies to collect these days!

That's one of the good things about being an old timer Epic player.  :;):

Good point. Perhaps they should be a super heavy.

Did anyone work out an example of a mole company card?

Ths could be one idea:
3*
Mole Detachment
Hearthguard stand, 9 Combat stands & Mole for 850
OR
Warlord & Command Termite AND
3*
Mole Detachment
Hearthguard stand, 9 Combat stands & Mole for 900

One could argue that 30 stands should have a Warlord since other big cards generally do.

Hi!

Those sound pretty good.

I'll include them into the optionals book.

Send me this post to pramos10@cox.net to make note of it.

Are the Moles "super-heavy" now or?

Primarch had that suggestion or idea but I do not know if anything more happened.

Nah, just an idle wonder by me.  They are relatively inexpensive....just might have been handy for the Squats if they and Rams were superheavy, but not a big deal really.

I'm not sure about Moles being super heavy, but i'd be well up for making the launchers forward observers. After all they are fitted out with some superlative telemetry gear and presumably sensors for assisting the mole on route to it's destination.

Makes it worth preserving the launchers too, at the moment i'd hate to be a launchers crew member.

A question. Are the launchers counted towards the breakpoint of tunneler cards?

The Launchers are curently basically scenery...they have no rules or effect on the game.  While kinda weird, I dont see the point in changing things at this late stage.

In net epic GOLD page 22 this is stated..

"Tunneler Launchers: Some tunneling detachments come with a transport vehicle, and if this vehicle has line-of-sight to the chosen surfacing point the deviation distance is only D6 x 5 cm. After all tunnelers in a detachment
have surfaced, each launcher may act as a Forward Observer for the rest of the game."
