Hello everyone.

I found a strange optional rule that I dont know what do about.. The discount for static artillery differs in two places. Does anyone know what the correct version would be.
My rules are not the latest version so I might very well be wrong here. But as it says now it is abit unclear how much the static artillery would cost.

In the rules it states as: Optional Special Ability: Static Artillery
Heavy artillery is sometimes entrenched, losing the ability to move in exchange for increased protection,
better camouflage and pre-battle ranging shots. Instead of attempting to simulate these advantages, simply lower the cost of the detachment by 25 points. Since Companies already enjoy a discount they only become 50 points cheaper.

In the netepic optional rules it says that: Special Ability: Static Artillery
Artillery is sometimes entrenched, losing the ability to move in exchange for increased protection, better
camouflage and pre-battle ranging shots. Instead of attempting to simulate these advantages, simply lower the cost of the detachment by 50 points. Artillery Companies already enjoy a discount and only become 100 points cheaper. Any Heavy Artillery unit that is normally mobile may become Static, losing any movement ability. Because
the crew cannot retreat and regroup, if a static unit is ever placed on Fall Back Orders for any reason, it immediately
routs and is removed from the tabletop.

Thanks in advance.

//Peter

Welcome aboard, Pettan.

Yes, that does seem to be a contradiction. Are you consulting the v5.0 rules?

Heyas.

Well, I have v5.0 on both the books. I do not know if there are any "fresher" versions out though.

V5.0 is the most recent, but as part of the NetEpic Gold project, typos and clarifications are being sorted out. This certainly seems like a needed clarification.

I would have to say the rules in the Core Rulebook would superceed anything in the Options book.  I find those rules fairly dodgy so I wouldn't agree to them personally.

Hello Zap.

I actually had the same feeling. Furthermore a 100 discount is quite alot if it cuts away 100 of the (for example) 475 of a Goliath Superheavy Artillery Battery or 50 from a whirlwind battery that cost 150. I also found that a Traktor Kannon Battery only costs 75. Would be strange if it only cost 25 in my opinion.

Hi!

This needs editing.

For now you get 25 points less if a detachment and 75 points for a full company.

perhaps we should take it out of the core rulebook and just leave in the options book?

Hi!

Perhaps, although static artillery should be a core unit. Its virtually the same as the regular, but it doesn't move.

Instead of complex rules, we decided a lower cost was better.

Why not list the units directly in the corresponding book with the cost already factored in?

They are....there are lots of 0 movement artillery units already.  This is an optional rule to take say a Basilisk, and get it for cheaper by sacrificing it's movement.  As these things rarely move in a game it is just a min-maxing option IMHO, so I wouldn't allow it in a game I played.  I really don't see any need for it personally.

Hi!

Good point. How would you deal with static artillery then?

Static Artillery

Any artillery unit with a movement of 0 is considered to be static.  Light artillery with a movement of 0 may be towed following the normal rules (see special ability: Transport), although in this case the Artillery does not sacrifice any movement.

Any effect that would force a static unit to move (e.g Eldritch Storm) will destroy the unit instead.  If at any time a static artillery unit fails a morale check the crew abandon the artillery piece.  It is effectively destroyed and so is removed from the game.

Hi!

So basically no price reduction but a disadvantage?

Sounds good to me.

Make it so!  :)

Or sacrifice movement for a small armour save adjustment to represent the fact that it is dug in. Mix that with Zaps idea and it is something worth considering.

Also add in a rule that says it is automatically destroyed if it fails a morale check for any reason. To represent the crew deserting the guns and running for the hills.
