Well I think he means both basically. Now just a desert tan, would work, or other camo patterns. Most armies just paint their AFVs tan for use in the desert. But if you look at the TV news, you'll see a numder of camo patterns. The UK has IIRC a three color irregular strip pattern of Tan, Ochre, Mustard. The US gave/sold the old Sinai pattern to the Iraqis. Nicknamed the "Chocolate Chip", as it would work better in more rocky desert terrain. The C/Chip pattern has irregular tan & medium brown strips with black dots ? covered by off-white dots. Spread over the tan and Med. Brown Stripes. The former US pattern had irregular strips in tan, ochre and light brown. But that is being replaced by a digital pattern you now see both the US Army and the USMC (the Marines hav their own digi- pattern !) are being issued. Of course after 2-3 trips to the high desert in my distant past. After 4-5 days of operations, everything is covered with that fine, gritty, dust that is really what desert sand is ! And all is a pale off white/light biege over it's original base color ... Hope that helps a little ...
