In our continuing tweak and tune JW and I played a 5K Ork vs Tau game last night. ?First outing for 'Da Boyz, and they were feeling out $$'d facing real Tau ![]() ![]() Tau with Manta: ![]() Da' Boyz: Was a funny game as the Tau had lotsa Kroot so they out CAF'd the Orks, but we certainly had the numbers! ?KoS went straight up the guts, ![]() KoS Charge up the middle: Deathskulls and their horde of Grots took the right and Evil Sunz the left, while the Bad Moons sat on a hill with their big toys. ?Battlesuits killed my Supa Gun and Braincrushas before we even got to the shooting phase. ?Manta was imposing, and my GG did jack....but did survive despite the loss of all fields. ?Renegade Mekboys had lotsa fun tossing around Hammerheads ![]() End of turn one and it was basically 5 objectives to 3 Ork favour. ?Second turn carnage ensued, with an Orca Drop suicide mission by Suits breaking the Bad Moons, and a bloodbath in the centre. ?KoS bikes and buggies were shot to bits, but took a Hammerhead Cadre and the Broadsides with them, then the Fightas (MVP on the night) gunned down the Manta....and the resultant fireball scoured the area clean of troops...smashing the KoS ![]() Where'd all my bikes go?: (those 7 pathetic stands are all that's left of a 40 strong KoS after the Manta blew!!! |

In typical fasion JW could not make a Deflector save, and not one shot bypassed the Great Gargant's fields, but all 11 (yay!) were gone by the middle of turn 2. ?Dragsta fields are annoying, but as Kel plays Orks a lot it is good to give him some of his own medicine ![]() So, we found out some stuff. - Pinning and its effect on shooting: It is clear from the rules that a unit engaged in close combat, but that isn't pinned (eg. Titan based by an infantry stand), can still be shot at (Firing Ranged Weapons, 1. Assign Attack Dice - P22 core rules). However, we could not find anything to say the unit that is in base to base but not pinned may fire out....which would make sense as a corrolary if nothing else. In fact, I can't find anything that explicitly stops a pinned unit from firing out (LoS issues aside)...it is implied in Movement Sequence, 3. Enemy Reponse...but not stated clearly that I can see. - Free Gretchin: ?This is easy to abuse. ?Deathskulls + 5 detachments of Grotz = break of 20 for 500 points. ?Add one Runtherd and for 575 points you get 35 stands with CAF 1 + the Nobz for under 600. ?This is a bit wrong. ?Thought was we make Gretchin support cards 25, and the special card with 8 stands free. ?Alternately you could make the Runtherd expensive. - Doomdiver Vs something that's a "Big Thing" and a "Flier": ?Does "Flier" take precedence, or does "Big Thing"...kind of important. ?We went with Flier is first so it applies, but other view is fine too. - Manta: needs turreted weapons for anti-flier work. ?Thought was to reduce the Burst cannon dice a bit and make them turret.....maybe 8 or 10 Dice? |

Hi Ulmo, Good finds. The first one however is a problem....proving a rule by showing its' opposite exists as an option is kinda weak, particularly as it is in another book. The bigger issue however is that the current core rules allow you to shoot into a combat if your target is not Pinned, but the same target can't shoot out. So if I base a Warlord titan with a gretchin stand, my Supa Gun can still shoot at the Warlord without penalty, but the Warlord can't shoot anything except the Gretchin. Seems kinda lopsided in fairness. Also good find on the Free card thingy....kinda hard on the Grots and Madboyz though. ![]() |

I agree.First this optional rule should be in the core book. Then in my opinion shouldn't be optional, but I can understand that the largest unit still prefer fight for its life. Moreover, this optionnal rule must apply to titans, maybe to Praetorians too. The example of the warlord and the gretchins shows it. Especially with the rules of CC between titans and infantry : even without its dices, the titan can't fear the gretchins. |

Hi! The rule was originally intended to avoid the old cheesy ploy of charging an infantry stand to a titan and thus nullifying all that firepower shooting at the infantry stand. It works both ways. If you ARE NOT pinned you can target from outside the melee. That means it is a viable ploy to charge the baneblade with infantry and shoot from OUTSIDE the melee to take it out. This rule has been around since virtually version one and has worked pretty well. The potential for abuse hasn't materialized in practice. SO I wouldnt worry about it. It needs however to be clearly stated. Get a better worded one to WMN, please. Primarch |

For changes to core rules, should we make the submission to WMN based on the draft Gold version? Should be easier for him to edit then. |
