last game we had great discussions due to the line of side on the battlefield. fist we said we look at the model size if one unit shhots at another over a hill or forrest but no good idea. then we decide it by pinning class and it works better but what if you are standing on a hill a forest in front of you, can you shoot over the forrest or only special pinning classes? how do you manage this problem in game? and what about shoting? example: a land raider shoots at a superheavy and a walker is standing between that two. so we said that the land raider is pinning class vehicle one over walker and can shoot at all behind the walker which is the pinning class of walker or higher. how do you manage that in game? |

I think with all wargames this is left to individual groups of players to decide, just because few people agree to one set of rules for this, and everyone's terrain is different. Also an official rule might be very long to include all possible situations? For trees, I use actual tree models and assume the whole wood blocks line-of-sight to that height. Before I made some trees, we used to designate a set height equal to one of the smaller buildings. Same goes for hills. Pinning class is a simple way to decide- we generalise infantry as not blocking site to everything else, then make-up the rest as we go along, roughly based on where the weapons are on models and heights and stuff- so lots of arguing. What's wargaming without arguments?? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

We pretty much play WYSIWYG....if you can actually see the target then you can shoot it. For Forests, we use moveable trees mostly, so we just put a tree in the Line of Fire and if the target can still be seen, away you bang. |

Me too - I have a laser pointer (eye safe) with a small mirror on it for checking LOS on the table. Cool "red-dot" effect too! |

The laser pointer is a $2 commercial pen sized type I then made a collar around it with putty and inserted a mirro into it so the laser would deflect at right angles. That way, I just hole the laser above the firing unit and the laser can check LOS from it/him. ?It means that I dont have the problm of havibng to get nehind the firing unit where terrain and other units will prevent this emthod from being used I'll take a pic for you in the next day or so |
