I have my chapter taking shape on my windowsill and my BFG fleet poses nicely in a shoebox on the floor.

Bad Idea! I once stored my fleet in a box on the floor, unfortunatly it was destroyed by a 'warp beast' when she got drunk!

Hi!

I agree with blacksnotling, I have used such things as cardboard boxes to store things before and they can get wet, attract bugs, get warped and break and a whole host of things. The box doesn't matter of course, but whats in it does.

Warmaster rocks! Plus as I can get it at trade discount via Miniatures Online the EPICentre online store (that was a discrete plug btw) my Empire army will grow in no time!

Going back to an old topic (sorry, I was away) Warmaster is somwthing I can now consider.

I say consider, as Skaven has only just been released for them. And they are the only race I'd be willing to do.  However, I know of no-one who plays the game.  And I am not willing to start another game system which may result in me playing against myself.

Which is a shame, for if it is as good as some of you say, its a pity to not at least experiance it.

Hi!

For me the biggest turn off was that warmaster was not in 6mm, but in 10mm. I like the concept and the game, but have not dived into it due to scale. It would have been SO much better in 6mm.

Imagine 40k versus warmaster games in epic scale!

I don't know if you remember, but the original Warmaster prototypes WERE in 6mm Epic scale!

They showed us some teaser photos years ago and they were cool!

I kept hoping they'd come out in 6mm as well!

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

I did hear (and this is hearsay) that the reason why Warmaster was developed as 10mm over 6mm was that with a 6mm scale there wouldn't be any models in the "gargant" size and therefore no boxed sets.

In 6mm, for example, dragons would be very small whereas in 10mm they were bigger.

In the end of course the whole ethos of the release of Warmaster was changed from a "typical" Games Workshop release and was released in  a very different way - ie no large boxed set, eveything in blisters, etc...

I have to admit I really like the Warmaster models.

I have to say that I am a great fan of the warmaster miniatures, and am pleased that they went for 10mm scale for the detail they've managed to include.

I believe that jimbo's point is a good one that there wasnt enough in the way of big things for GW to see a need for 6mm, but I believe there was also another factor which they took into account.

There are very few manufacturers of 10mm fantasy figures. GW was breaking new ground for its ranges to do a fantasy game on an epic scale and could be assured of a good folowing whatever scale they chose. Since it was an entirely new style for them, they wouldnt be alienating any previous gamers. 10mm scale meant they limited the number of possibilities gamers had to find other sources for their miniatures if they wished to play the game. 6 or 15mm are widely supported and at a fraction of the price of anything that GW would put out. Even demonworld, generally considered the Best 15mm on the market works out (marginally) cheaper than similar GW items.

I know it sounds like I'm bashing GW, and to an extent I would like to be able to, but at the end of the day It was a very good business move on their part.

Hi!

Yes, I remember Maksim. I first heard of "fantasy epic" as far back as 1992 in the old GW store in Philadelphia on South street (now long gone). I drooled at the prospect. As things go years went by I was surprised when they finally announced Warmaster. Heck, my usual anti-GW gloom was close to going into remission. Until I heard of the scale....

I agree with Tuff, that the desicision was mainly marketing and limiting choices. 10mm fantasy is a small niche which GW pretty much owns now. So it was a good business desicion, although I dislike it.

Jimbo has a good point regarding lack of really big models in a fantasy setting. There are no "titan" equivalents in fantasy, with dragons being the largest, but not as large to look good in 6mm. After much wrangling and bitching about it, I did arrive to the conclusion that they made the right choice in selecting 10mm. Like Jimbo mentioned the minis look "fab".

However I still have problems getting into an entirely different scale. I may surmount it, but with my Warmachine fever kicking in warmaster takes a back seat.
