Hi!

Inquisitor, you might want to post on the netepic list too and get some volunteers.

I can help with the Imperium timeline if we ditch the  patethic  ridiculous  demented "technology stopped improving despite 10.000 years of continual warfare" thing.

Well, there will need to be some sort of "retrograde" effect on the Imperium. This is not to say that  all development has stopped, but that the pace has slowed to a historical crawl, with a good degree of regression, and even losing of technology.  The Epic universe is kind of in a dark age of high tech, where mysticism and religion actually have more importance than technology, science and advancement.  It's very much based on dark age Europe, and I want to go with that feel.

Hmmm ... nice historians' approach ...  :alien:    :8):

I'm hoping to avoid many of the pitfalls that plague GW's fluff.  Get a standard timeline down, fill in the gaps, merge and reconcile the discrepencies, etc.  will have to see how it all turns out, or if I get overly frustrated and pump a few rounds inot my PC...

A few arbitrary decisions here on dates:

1. format will be yyy.ddd.mxx  So, Today (10/23) would be 005.296.m03.
2. Years will be standardized at 360 days per year.
3. Please use this format for all time lines submitted.

Does this mean we can finally dump the Machine god for good and return to the good ol' times when that abomination didn't exist? Please?

Maybe.  Kinda.  Sort of.  Well, not really.   :p

Rats. I liked it back in the Rogue Trader/AT/SM1 days when the Adeptus Mechanicus did think there were spirits in the machines to please but still followed the Imperial Cult and weren't autonomous.  :(

Yeah, Jyrrki and a few others will probably want in on this.  Will post something now..

That's "Jyrki" with just one 'r' and I am right here.  :;):

I constantly do that with your name don't I?  One of these days I'll get it right the first time...

As for teh Adpetus Mechanicus, they'll still have the cult of the machine god, just not to quite the same degree.  It will flow more along this line I think (open to discussion and changes of course):

The Mechanicus base on Mars, and all sub-bases through out the Imperium, prior to the rise of the Emperor, would have been computer controlled production facilities.  The central computer on Mars would send updates to the other outposts, and would in return receive updates from those other facilities.  While Earth is isolated, the computer goes a little nuts, and begins to act as if a god, and the AM members accept this (or die), thus begining the cult of the machine god.  Once the warp storms are lifted, the Mars central computer then "updates" all the other AM facilities with this new "program."  Thus the cult spreads.  Now, the Emperor begins to retake the outposts of humanity in the Great Crusade.  First stop is Mars, under the control of the mad computer (hence the Paranoia reference).  The Emperor takes Mars, and detsroys the program, but makes use of the cult, with the Emperor now as the embodiment of the Machine God.  the Emperor installs a new OS for Mars, which is then updated to all the other AM facilities across the galaxy.  Of course, this doesn't mean that the same thing can't happen again, or isn't happening again now.  ;)

If anyone's read the Butlerian Jihad series of Dune prequels, that's the feel I'm going for here.

Hmmm. Does not sound so bad that way, I must admit.

"Obey the Emperor. The Emperor is your friend". "Stay alert. Trust no-one. Keep your mechadendrites handy."    :p

You know, those quips probably aren't far off from something that would come from either the Cult or the Ministorium.   :p

Stuff like that would be good for side bars and such.  The old "thought for the day" type quotes we used to see in WD and the various codexes and rule books.
