Don't all volunteer at once! :D :D :D

Continuing JZ's LotR analogy for this paragraph only; From my perpective I also have to wonder if another ruleset would unite us and cover the forum in a second darkness. Most likely it simply succeed in further fragmenting matters, ending up with the opposite of the desired gay pride reunion at Minas Tirith. I suspect that the respective NetEpic humans and E:A orks would remain loyal to their systems while a few cheerless but open-minded elven players leave Middle Earth to go and die somewhere out of sight (trying the alternative game).

I'm saying that from the personal perspective of someone who, along with Primarch (and as mentioned), has been driving forward the Net Epic Evolution project. I'm acutely aware that by promoting a new variation on the system I may only splinter the Net Epic community further. I'm pressing forward though mainly because I wanted to do this project for myself. I believe it can improve the Net Epic experience but if people don't want to come along that is completely fine. It shouldn't really matter which version we play, traditional or Evolution, the main thing is that the bulk of the rules and all of the armies will be the same for both systems.

I think the most simple option would be for someone (not me) to create NetEpic army lists for E:A and vice versa...

To return to the original question, in an ideal world it would be great if we could all play to one set of rules. Considering, however, that there isn't even agreement within two main factions (NetEpic and EA) over the direction of the rules, trying to merge the two together is going to be impossible. It simply will not happen.

I find the sheer number of variant lists, fan based lists, confusing divisions over which set of rules is played by which group (this is especially a problem with EA, but we need to make sure that it doesn't become an issue for NetEpic as well) to be a complete turn off, and pretty depressing. Still, that's just my view, and I'm probably in the minority on this.

I completely agree. Its a difficult situation. But gamers will always tinker with rules and lists, as is right, so long as people enjoy their games then all is well.

I cannot settle on a system i want to play so im building my forces with flexibility in mind, so i can play them all. Then after a while ill can make an informed decision on which to stick with. As to writing a new set from the ground up as Primarch suggests, I would be up for that however being in the forces stationed abroad doesnt help, so any input from me would be minimal to say the least.

So, variant lists for the systems that already exist seems to be the answer, for me at least.

Steve :)
