Yes, they cost some VP but they are not over cost.

Just a general question regarding off-board firing:

So, I pay 2/4 VP, for that I get one barrage template that has to be called in by the FO on a 3+?

Is this correct so far?

Does the template then scatter or not?

Yes, it scatters too. The FOb makes it only scatter 1D6cm's though.

So, for 2VP to my opponent I MUST, in order to make the cost of using the Orbital Barrage worth while, I have to, with one 6cm template break a formation gaining in excess of 2VP?.. And that for by all the rigmarole of calling it down, scattering and making sure my FOb is protected but still able to target stuff.

Isn't THAT correct?

So, unless I'm winning in VP by quite a margin already then it does not pay to call down a barrage from orbit when I would be most inclined to need it. LIKE WHEN I'M LOSING

If we are going to include these units. And make no mistake I think they are cool and everything and I love to use them in campaign games. Then we should try to work on a way to make this work better.

As far as I know and the way I play with all transports is that the transport does not have to keep coherency with its contents.

But with FO Id rather see a free setup and no transport possibilty. Let them loose their transport if the player wants and then you get the free setup. With that rule they cant keep objectives. It is not thier agenda anyways.

That said. All of these points are still wrong if you ask me.

1. Squat FO should cost 50 instead of 100.
2. Imperial Guard FO should have caf 0 instead of +2.
3. Squats have Stealth but it should say so in the armylist also.
4. Eldar FO should cost 100 instead of 150. (other FO costs 50 but they pay abit more for their Falcon).
5. Chaos FO should cost 50.
6. Elysian should have caf 0 instead of +2.
7. Adeptus Mechanicus FO should cost 100 instead of 50.
8. Chaos Rhino should be command.
9. Chaos FO should have caf +3.

If they are all correct I guess that I just dont get it. :flyboy:

Yes Squats can use observation ballons. I know that not 100% of all squat players out there have them though. For them a FO can be quite helpful.

And- FO for Marines can seem strange but if you take away their FO:s then you remove their possibilty to use Orbital Bombage. I think that the FO for Marines should be used for that.

That's an optional rule you're choosing to use.  It's not the standard rule and certainly not how we play.

As a general comment, is there anything that really needs changing here?

hmm, should one need barrage weapons for Marines, why not take a Titan and arm it accordingly?
I never use the orbital barrage for the reasons given by Warhead. I always saw it as an option for scenarios and campaigns, does not make sense in a standard game imo.

It's a nice idea but it simply doesn't work when used with a standard VP game where you fight to a VP limit. It would have been nice to include in a tactical game of 2k or so but how can you when it's just not worth it. +2 VP per barrage attack is ridiculous and +4 VP against Nids is a mind numbingly thoughtless fix. Surely we can do better.
