I heard that the whole reason behind the Heresy theme was when the original AT models were produced, it was too expensive for GW to have 2 different model types - they could only afford the one mold, poured in 2 colours.
Thus they had to come up with a reason why the same model would be used on both sides. And so the Heresy rebellion was born!
Thats what I heard anyway...:p

I have heard that story a few times. Once on the offical forum and JJ did not debunk it. So I figure it is true. It makes sense too.

It makes sense to me too. We are all familiar with GW's habit of changing/rewriting/fabricating fluff to fit a game.  Look at Space Hulk alone. GW had to invent a good reason why Termies needed to board a space hulk filled with Stealers, instead of blowing the whole ship to smithereens!
