Hepp,
Hi, I've got a large Slann/Necron army and have played 50 or so games with or aginst Slann. So I guess I'm probably one of the more experienced slann player around.
The Slann army have quite a solid range of units you can choose from. With troops ranging from the cheesier Battlesuits to grunt troops like Skink Scouts.
What I would advice you to do is to decide what the core of your army will be and then by a 3000 - 4000 point army and expand from that.
Actually I startet my Slann army when I designed a really cool colour scheme for necrons. Then I buildt a 5000 pts pure necron army and played with that for a long time before expanding into true slann and finaly exodus. Now I command somwhere between 15 to 20 thousand points of Slann.
As for minis you can use any type of battletech of CAV armoured infantry for Slann Battlesuits or Necron infantry. I Use Clan Elemental infantry for Slann battlesuits (all types), and for Necron Assault infantry. We have just given them different colour schemes! (NB only 4 minis per stand!) And inner sphere battlearmour for Necron tacticals. The other infantry is a wide variety of infantry models (Basically what we have had awailable) Rangeing from Kurita/Davion (Skinks), eldar (exodus) to SM. Use what you can find!
The vehicles are primary from the battletech line. You should check out this site: http://www.mechdepot.com/ We have used them on several occations and the service has been excellent! Basically look for what you think looks cool and would fit the aproximate description of the unit! We have never used anything but the bull frog mechs (Mad Cat) or Time Mage Mech (Vulture). You should also check out the 6mm GZG minis for infantry and vehicle ideas! : http://www.gzg.com/
Hope this helps some! I'f you have any further questions I'll be checking in on this list again between Xmas and new years eve!
Have fun!
Nils

Thanks for the info and have a "Merry Christmas" and "Happy New Year". I have seen so many different figs I like. Guess I really need to make a list then fit the figs. Want "True Slann" but like the others also. Thanks again.

Yea, True Slann is an interesting army. They are few but powerful. Here is how I would put together a 4000 pts True slann Army.
First you need 1-2 companies from the True Slann list.
I would start of with a Gravguard company (Clan Elemental or Salamander infantry from IronWind) and either a Medium Mech Company (Fire Falcon from IronWind) or Spawnguard company (Clan Elemental or Gray Death Legion infantry from IronWind) This will give you a nice core for your army of between 900 ? 1650 pts (2350 pts if you go for all three)
Then you should purchase at least one detachment of heavy Mechs (Mad Cat minis from Iron Wind), and a Great Mage in a Bullfrog. (The Mechs needs the guidance of the Mage to be really effective). This unit will put you back 800 pts.
If you purchase 2 true Slann companies you can get another special card (I would advice that) and get a detachment of Vanguards (Clan Elemental or Basic inner Sphere battlearmour from IronWind). That?s another 400 pts.
If you are fond of Mechs, a detachment of Light Mechs (Flea from iron Wind) would be ideal to support your advancing infantry. That?s 300 pts.
You should now have somewhere between 2850 and 3850 pst of true Slann.
If you choose to drop the Spawnguard, you?ll need some assault infantry. I would use a company of Necron Assault (Clan elemental) or the more flexible Necron Tacticals (Basic inner sphere), supported by a combination of a detachment Necron Immortals (Longinus battlearmour from IronWind) and a Necron Numbercruncher (Clan elementals) and perhaps a couple of detachments of Necron mantis missile batteries (I use whirlwind minis) to give you some barrage weapons.
This should in one way or another push you past the target limit of 4000 pts.
And everything can be purchased from one website: http://www.ironwindmetals.com/
I have never done any business directly with them, so I don?t know how good their service is!
Have a Happy new Year!
Nils
