Hey guys

Was looking for a way or use the lovely Vanguard ‘Skinook’ heavy transport Chopper in NetEpic/Titan Legions/SM2. I quite like the idea of a couple of these coming in carrying crack units of blood axe commandos (listening to some loud Goff rock of course)
Link here to the miniature: https://vanguardminiatures.co.uk/shop/skinners-skinook-heavy-transport-chopper/

As there aren’t any official rules for anything similar was trying to come up with some home brew rules for them. Keeping it simple, was thinking of modified Thunderhawk rules. Does anyone have any thoughts on these? The idea is it’s a slower unit that can come in from off table and perhaps needs a turn of flying low through a gulley or forest before dropping the troops on an objective, but as per the miniature doesn’t have much offensive firepower.
M = 60cm
Save = 4+
CAF = +1
Weapons = Big shootas (shots 4, range 25, 5+ to hit, 0 TSM)
Special rules: Flier, PD(2), transport capacity 5
50pts

Very grateful for any thoughts, in particular if it is too cheap points wise (perhaps 75 would be better?)

With the rules you have there, which look good as an aside, yes 50 is rather too low for that model. 125 would be more appropriate. This is making a few assumptions, as you didn't give all needed data. Specifically:
- Transport 5 allows all Infantry and Light Artillery at 1 stand per slot.
- Morale 4 (Ork normal)
- is not Independent, and thus must have a Command model within 10cm to receive orders (Ork normal)

We could shave off much of the cost by changing it from a Flyer to a Skimmer (with no Pop-Up ability). Your description of its intended use (and the function of the real-world equivalent) would support this, as there is no reason for it to ever need to use High altitude. With this change, it would be reasonable for it to have a cost of 100.

I would think a "helicopter" would be a skimmer. They can hover ... fixed wing aircraft can't. FWIW - A CH-47 can carry about 30 troops.

Human troops, yes, but an Ork Boy is almost the size of a Space Marine (in most lore). In other words, larger and bulkier than a normal human (IE, Guardsman). If he was making this as a Guard usable vehicle, six stands would be more appropriate. But he isn't. I was tempted to use that rationale to recommend dropping the capacity to four stands, but most Ork infantry detachments have five stands, so that would limit its use.

Well I just said FWIW a CH-47 holds 30 troops[6 Fire Tms - 5 stands], of course, it is not a Chinook ... So, if it only will hold 25 Orks ... that would be about right. 30 Humans vs. 25 Orks.

After all the times I've flown in a CH-47 ... never saw any Orks though on board ...

Thanks a lot for the replies guys, really useful!

MagnusIlluminus - thanks yes your assumptions are correct in all cases. A skimmer probably sounds a bit more straightforward, as this is for a participation game so the fewer rules the better!

Thanks again guys - as soon as Vanguard gets some of their Kommando Skinner minis back in stock I will start with this project :)

Thanks a lot for this guys was really helpful. Here are images of the finished Ork 'Airborne Cavalry'.

Unfortunately my photo hosting site isn't recognised by this site, so here is a direct link:

75pts for the Black-Ork and 100pts for the Chin-Ork
