I’m not really sure about timing for anything, but I can speak in generalities.

Some of the 6mm Elves have already been mastered. The sculptor is adjusting a few models that will need to then be reprinted, then all of those can go for moldmaking. But that can take some time. It is also quite a lot of molds to pay for.

I am bringing many of my older 6mm fantasy lines in house for casting, as my main caster is running short of storage, and many of the molds are spun maybe once a year. By mid-year I should be casting about half of all of the 6mm Fantasy armies myself.

The massive undead expansion, depending on how long it takes the elf prints to come back, may end up getting slotted for release prior to the elves.

Work continues to hum along on the Dieselpunk project. The insect nomad infantry and light vehicles are out for moldmaking. Some test orcs have been sculpted, the rest will follow soon. Some stahlritter vehicles will be trickling out as they are finished, one is in for moldmaking now. The rules for the line are also being worked on. I will not be releasing the orcs and insect nomads until the rules are ready. The stahlritters I will likely release as they are finished, as they have proxy potential for other systems.

The fantasy naval project is quite far along. A couple of orc escorts are being sculpted now, but really I have 5 starter fleets sculpted and ready to go, with some extra releases for Dwarves and Orcs. The rules are also still being worked on. The art for the book has been commissioned, but I imagine it will take a little while to finish. I will likely be releasing the Orc and Dwarf fleet some time in the 1st quarter of this year, despite the rules not being ready. This is partially to generate funds to finish up the project, and also a bit of market research to see if I absolutely need to do a Kickstarter or not to generate interest and advertisement. My preference would be to not crowdfund, but if a general release seriously underperforms, I will have to resort to Kickstarter.

In terms of other random stuff, 3mm scifi buildings have been printed, and will be sent for resin moldmaking soonish. Some could even play double duty for 6mm. I also have acquired the rights to Team Kukri in 3mm, which should be released this year.

The 6mm scifi Dreg infantry, cavalry, and trolls are being sculpted now. All vehicles have been sculpted and are being printed/mastered now. Once I have some masters I need to send them to the physical sculptor so that he can sculpt the extra bits for the vehicles…dreg tank riders, totems, skeletons, dead bodies and such that can be added to the vehicles for extra flavor. I will likely commission some art for some super heavy tanks as well. I’m looking forward to the line finally being released this year.

I will definitely say that if the naval project works well as substitute Man o'War Orcs, then I know at least one fleet gets bought right off!

I've had a lot of crud in life keep me from indulging/being productive for the best part of the past two years, but things are slowly improving and I hope I'll be able to support these wonderful 6mm figures better. The only problem would be what to build first and where to fit it in among the epic and 10mm Warmaster and Man o'War and Oldhammer and... I need some clones.

First of all thank you for all of the wonderful figures you have produced this year. My dining table is covered in undercoated ratkin as I type. I wondered whether you had seen what Baccus in the uk do and I know other manufacturers in other scales do which is to either suggest figures and only produce them once a number of people commit to buying that code or product line or have customers suggest lones and only start producing them when enough people commit to buying them. I am really looking forward to the additons to the undead lines.

I know at one time there was a suggestion of a smaller dragon type creature for the undead perhaps in line with the gw terrorgeist and wondered if that was still on the pipeline? Also ages ago thrre was some art work for brettonian types with angelsare these still things you would be considering for the future?

A thousand times yes to all of it! Seeing Team kukri in metal will be the icing on my 3mm scale cake though! I can’t wait to see the revised 6mm undead too - I’m just getting enough courage to paint my Ratkin - possibly as a “good” force - the Grey Rats of Sforzinda, who rise up to join the Florentines as they resist the Fallen Empire.

Anyway, Microworld continues to be a go-to firm to watch! All of this sounds ambitious but attainable and I can’t wait to see what you do this year! And don’t forget to sell up the modular supertanks - they play VERY VERY well with the expanding 3mm scale line as BOLOs! I’m here to tell you!

I have art for the dragon creature and everything, but I have not gotten it sculpted as part of this release. I kind of made the decision to start lumping the bigger stuff together, release-wise, so I can share molds. The bigger stuff tends to really inflate the costs to get a line sculpted, and they don't generally sell a ton.

Kingdom of Light army is definitely still planned. Its more a matter of logistics. I am now trying to keep the same sculptor doing the majority of the 6mm fantasy stuff, but his turnaround has generally been 3-4 months for the past few projects. Right now he is doing the Dreg infantry, then he has to do the Stahlritters infantry...which honestly probably brings us to August. So even if I commission the Kingdom in August, I won't see the sculpts till December or Jan 2020. But yes, for 6mm Fantasy, after the elves and undead expansion, my next priorities are the Kingdom of Light and Egyptian Undead.

That pretty much wraps up the standard fantasy archetype races. Any further releases will mirror the Bugbears insofar as they will be family molds, reduced unit variety, etc. Mostly because it will be stuff I think is cool, but that probably isn't widely desired.

I do have some 10mm fantasy stuff on the go as well, not sure on the timing of it. I have also been thinking of having Andreas upscale and re-detail some of my favorite Cheese Emporium 3mm stuff to 6mm.

In re: 3mm to 6mm, start with Team Kukri or Team Katana. They have sweet sweet Anime vibes that would play nice with any of a number of mecha lines. DP9, for example.

I heartily endorse this event or product.

:o If the quality is close to the awesome 6mm range, my wallet is going to cry.

Is there artwork available for the kingdom of light and or the Egyptian undead troops to whet our appetites?
Will the Egyptian troop types all be undead or will there be jackal headed / eagle headed etc types?

That's interesting to hear, did you get your own spin caster and melter?

Will there be scorpions in the Egyptian undead?

Author:  thedespot29 [ Sun Apr 14, 2019 2:22 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: State of the Microworld 2018

There is definitely a bunch of artwork for the Egyptian Undead, as well as embarrassingly old artwork for the Kingdom of Light. I may have even posted it here a while back.

I don't really have any scorpions planned per se. The first release will probably see all of the core troops minus any centerpiece kind of units. In general I am going to focus on releasing everything for armies but large monsters and war engines, then have separate releases for those afterwards. Mostly because they are a huge money sink, and they tend not to sell all that well. Since they are low volume items, it is kind of silly and costly to have them in their own production molds so I am going to start doing family molds for them.

@Dave
I did get my own spin caster and a couple of melters. I got one of those Conley new venture machines, manual mold pressure which is the real killer, but in general, it works pretty well. Hardest part is finding someone to make molds for you, as I just don't have the bandwidth to learn myself.

Everything looks and sounds great, I'm just off to see if the naval stuff will work with my Uncharted Seas stuff for scale (I have an unrelated set of rules to use with them).

But in terms of archetype fantasy races, this is my annual or semi-annual plea for a full halfling line, or even a partial one, halflings on funky mounts and - the biggie - halflings with bows! For some reason no one has thought to put this out.

Thanks,
Chris
