No zoom (or a 1.5 or 2x optical zoom, only on the ogres). All artifacts, except the ogres on the ends, are from shrinking the images to be 900 pixels wide and or other things that happened to the images before posting, since some forum software doesn't let you shrink them dynamicallly to fit on the page. And then combining the images together introduced more pixelation. I posted this on a spur of the moment, and wasn't at my home desktop, so you don't want to know how I combined the separate images into one. 
The thing I found (like with the ogres) is to only fill the middle of the camera frame with the minis, since even without zoom all cameras have some minor fisheye that makes the minis on the edge out of focus.
I am using a light box. The 'LimoStudio 16" x 16" Table Top Photo Photography Studio Lighting Light Tent Kit in a Box' from Amazon. It makes focusing a lot easier. I still need to brighten the photos a little but I think most of the issues at this point are in what we will amusingly call "post processing".
