Are these a different race or simply different lists? I believe their is an association between Demiurg and Tau which I'm interested in.

What are the main differences between the two lists and how close to complete are they?

The Demiurg list was written and designed many years ago before there was any development of the Demiurg within the 40K universe. There was a lot of speculation but nobody really knew anything. ePilgrim (retired Squat developer) came up with an idea that the Demiurg were the Squats that weren't home when the Tyranids ate them.

I was a major contributor on the Demiurg list but I can tell you it was an overpowered list. Not crazy overpowered, but it was problematic.

Since then the Demiurg have been developed by GW as a separate and distinct race from the Squats. I took over as the Army Champion for the Squats awhile back and decided to take the list in a different direction. I went back to the original Space Marines game and tried to create a list that feels more like it used to. I also started with the list being weaker and then built it up from there.

Sort of, let me get this right, Squats and Demiurg are basically the same race (like Eldar and variant Eldar). The demiurg list needs work, which is ongoing.

So, in terms of the two lists what are/will be their be their characteristic differences/units/play styles?

Go back five years ago and -sure- we thought the Demiurg were the same race as the Squats, and were developed as a variant to the Squats.

Now, the Demiurg list IMO is not a good list to play. I can't delete it, but I would not qualify it as a balanced list. There is a new Squat list coming out that is thematically similar to the old Demiurg list (calling it the Trade Consortium list) but don't expect the Demiurg name to reappear again in the Squat subforum.

It seems blatantly obvious to me that the Demiurg are meant to be the Squats, now spacebourne after the destruction of their core homeworlds by the tyranids. Some of them allying with the Tau makes sense, they're both high-tech races surrounded by hostile enemies.

The hints and connections are many and very heavy handed. Is there anything to suggest that they are not the same? I'm not aware of anything. The Demiurg concept sketch looks a bit different to the old fashioned dwarf in space, but if they were re-doing such an old army they weren't happy with of course they'd change them a bit. It's a revision and re-imaging of the existing under a new name, not something different.

No need for a separate army and list. Squats = Demiurg.

Can't speak to any specific list or mechanics, but fluff wise most 40k players assume demiurge are meant to be squats, even if GW will never admit it.

Using a squat list as allies with a tau army shouldn't cause anyone to even blink.
