Hey all, Long time/first time

I recently began collecting and playing (or rather trying to convince the gaming group) to give epic a shot, as I never liked 40K rules, but loved the flavor of the universe.

Anyway, I have put together the following armies:
Space Marines (Space Wolves)
Chaos (Tzeentch and Khorne w/a smidge of Slaneesh)
Squats
Imperial Guard

My questions are:

1) Is it better to focus on one or two armies, since most Epic armies play differently or try and get enough of each (like 1500 or 3000 pts) so I can equip the whole group?  What has worked in your experience with introducing a new game to an old group?

2) Can Space Wolves use wolf scouts and/or Bjorn the Fell Handed and does anyone have the 2nd Ed/NetEpic rules for them?

3) Do you guys use the Titan Battle Groups from Titan Legions?  If not, should I cut off Titan Legions totally from the games, and just stick with the 2nd ed rules?  Or do the Titan Groups/Snap Fire/Psychic phase add to the fun?

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from fellow Epic players.

Hiya,

Are you trying to stick to 2nd ed or move to one of the newer rules sets?

I think there are rules for Bjorn in the NetEpic optionals book.  Titan legions are supported and have Titan Battle Groups, and Orks and Eldar have them too.  You don't get the free titan anymore though

Yes there are many versions of Epic!

2nd edition is somewhat supplanted by NetEpic - an improved fan built version that can be downloaded for free here
http://www.tacticalwargames.net/forums....938;hl=

Otherwise their is GW's 4th edition which can be downloaded free off their website.

Zap and Chris,

Thanks for the advice, I think I am going to check out NetEpic.  Before I even heard of this forum, I had checked out the Epic Armageddon rules from GW, but they weren't my cup of tea.  Granted, lots of people like them, but lots of people like 40K, and I am not one of them.
I heard (and have read on the E:A forums) people championing the activation and blast markers and the like.

Anyway, thanks

Epic A is generally said to be the more tactically complex/balanced of the two game systems, but NetEpic is said to allow you to play much larger battles without bogging down and getting slow.

If you like SM2/TL, I can almost guarantee you'll like NetEpic even more. It smooths out some of the inconsistencies of SM2, while enhancing other aspects.

As for your armies, I would aim for about 5000 points each initially. This way if you play a 3000 or 4000 point game, you can swap units to test different combinations and for variety.

Which version your group would like to play may depend largely on your group. Do they like the complex or the simple? And this in turn may impact how you collect your armies and which ones. For me, Epic dried up in my area and I began to collect each army so my brothers/friends would have an army to play with. There are however a host of very cool 6mm minis out there acceptable for use as proxies--just manufactured on different forge worlds.

I am most familiar with SM2/TL. But then I'm old school.

Epic40k just confused me. I don't do math well in my head and adding up units in increments of 7 for a 2000pt game seemed odd (pun intended). It was too stripped down and too much like the larger 40k for me.

Although, EA is nice in that the unit sizes to play are small. Since many of the (old) GW models are getting harder to find, this is a plus!
NetEpic seems to be the best attempt to simplify the game yet retain much of the old flavor IMHO.
