Yes, probably all of those as Storm mentioned !  Chimeras are IFVs/APCs and many IG units would be using those ...

Chimeras are mostly meant for mech/armored regiments only with a few given to normal infantry regiments to act as a mobile reserve (the armored fist formations).

The Tanith First is light infantry and doesn't have organic transport pool, they use whatever is allocated to them by higher echelons.

I'd add converted Land Crawlers to the list of transports as well.

Skimmers ae too expensive to be used by regular grunts.

Agreed, and how about Tunnellers.  We're "old school" and IG forces could still use Rhinos and Tunnellers.  Maybe some other models (GHQ, Scotia, GZG, etc.,) could be used as other transports... like trucks ...

Definitely tunnellers! Thanks for reminding, for some reason I'd forgotten about them. Serves me right for not playing often enough.

Us "old school" types still have IG TO&Es with Rhinos, Tunnellers and Chimeras as well as Assault Troops with Jump Packs !  :D

Assault troops!....thats one i missed.

I've got a couple of hundred of unpainted ones in a bag somewhere , and maybe about 16 stands painted.
My collection is on the "old school " side.

Stats ;Def 5 ,move 12", AT none, AI 5-3", jump packs.

They look pretty poor when you strip them right down...eh?

(Oh ,and thanks for reminding me about GZG , theres a lot of interesting stuff over there, ) :)

I was thinking along the same lines but never got that far. As for the name, it is simply a rather unimaginative combination of warhammer and spearhead. ?:)

Naw , unimaginative would be Spearhead 40K ,   ...............................hey , that doesn't sound to bad either ! :D

Adler has some interesting Sci-fi pieces too !  Since I started Epicing in '90 and have most of the Epic models since, I'm "retro-old school" !  :D

To Legion 4;

About those TO+E's you were talking about.

Were there 10,000 marines in a Legion before the Heresy?.........or more?

After the Heresy , what is the command structure of the CSM.
The Primarch as top dog , and then Chaos Warlords next ,with Chaos Lords at the bottom?

How far out am i ?

Yes, during the Heresy, there were some Chapters that had 10,000 or more ... but not all.  During the Heresy, the Traitor SMs were organized like the Loyal SMs and as more became "tainted" their organizations/Legions were much more "flexible" ... As far as CSM Command structure, you are generally correct depending on the fluff ...  We have Primarch - Chaos Lord - Champion ...   Be what you have is fine ...

Its got possibilities !

To get back on topic , would motor transport be necessary ?

Mostly troops would debus a couple of miles from the front and walk the rest of the way.

Then again during a breakthrough and pursuit there are no fronts , so in that case transports models might be needed.

I've always liked the old British Stalwart , the armoured /amphibious/ six wheeled job .It looks a bit sixties but thats okay.

On another track ...i'm doing some Eldar Stats for a go at this idea. The problem is ...how to represent jetbikes.

I thought 30 jet bikes might be a combat team as they are on armoured bikes , there really is no equivelent modern force.
Nobody is daft enough to use bikes as assault troops in modern armies.

They count as infantry in E:A which makes them immune to AT fire.Combat teams immune to AT fire would be pretty tough
, and i'm not sure it would be a good simulation.

Any ideas.

You could treat jetbikes as LV, making them vulnerable to both AP and AT. It makes sense to me that AT fire, at least smaller calibers, should be able to damage jetbikes. If a 20mm cannon can shoot down an airplane, why not a jetbike?

Yes, Jet Bikes as LVs works for me. The closes thing I can think of in the real world is FAVs (Fast Atk Vehs). ?As far as transports go, depending on terrain and situation, Grunts dismount in covered and concealed positions as close to "the Front" as possible. ?The conundrum for mounted troops is always - dismount too soon you; lose mobility, dismount too late; you become a target !
