Hi Everyone,

*** 1. What do you think the best way to base undead pirates would be? Tannish sandy beach with yellowish field grass? Dark gray sand to give the night look? ***

I've been working on a 28mm undead pirate army? haven't decided whether to use the Lustria Zombie Pirates list or an adaption of the Vampire Counts list?

Either way, I'm stuck on basing?

I want to get the feeling of undead shambling up the beach and haven't decided whether I should try to go for a tan sandy beach look (afraid I'll look too much like Egyptian/Khemri Tomb dudes?)

OR

Trying for a gray drybrushed sand look (afriad it might look to dark and miss out on the undead pirate theme)?

*** 2. Any other ideas how to get the undead pirate theme going? ***

I already have little shells for the beach sand.

*** 3. Any idea where to find tiny tiny crabs? ***

Thanks for any help ahead of time!

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

not sure where to get crabs ( can think of a few rude jokes though). :p
I would vote for the yellow sand, would look great with some shells/ sea creatures/ seaweed and various bits of driftwood/flotsam and make sure you get some water effects in there.
What have you done for standards?

Cool Idea ! With the the release of the Depp/Fantasy Pirate movie and the H/Chan. showing hours of Pirate shows ! I'm watching it now !  Like S/Zom. said, flotsam, driftwood, seaweed, etc. ... even maybe a little seaweed on the pirates ?  :D  Sand base, wash light brown. dry brushed tan, biege, off white, tones. Add the shells of course !  For crabs and the like, check out the craft stores jewelry sections. I've got some cool stuff from there before !    May be even have some on bases with sea water up to their ankles ? :D

I'm setting up a small warband or three for Venice-themed skirmishes, and I chose a grey-olivedrab look with shingle (i.e. sand, which in 28mm scale would represent shingle), painted the same colour. A sort of muddy coastline look.

Oars - stick oars in the sand. And add lots of pirate flags.

Crabs - no idea! Except for these guys flanking the mummy, which are more spidery than crabby, but still...
Trouble is they were sent to me by... ? I forgot! And I don't know which range they're from.

I've heard flotsam mentioned and I think that's a great idea... working on it.

I'm not sure how to get seaweed...

To be honest, I don't even know how many units I'm going to have... I have way more minis than I'll need for the 1,500 to 2,000 point games my mates and I are planning.

I figured I'd build like crazy and see what I could come up with.

I imagine that I can build in excess of four to five full size thirty-skeleton units and at least two to three full size forty-zombie units. I haven't really counted though.

For banners, some of them are obviously going to be traditionally cloth banners, but I have some ideas for some of the others...

- Hanging driftwood and bones...
- A hanging anchor...
- A pirate flag...
- A damsel's bloomers...
- A ship's wheel...
- A hanging pirate...

And I'm still feeding my imagination to come up with more.

All help welcome!

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

How about the figurehead and prow of the undead ship rearing out of the sand/sea.

Capital idea from L4; seaweed on the pirates is a must.

You might be able to get some etched brass foliage that resembles seaweed. Again , not sure where.

I'm really taken with this idea, sounds like fun. I have a similar project on the go with 40k IG zombies..... gotta love the undead,?in a platonic way

Hi SZ,

I will be taking more photos as I go. Don't worry, there will be more eye candy in the near future.

And thanks for all of the help. It's greatly appreciated!
