Well I think my stature might be an issue unless they do a reverse rack, but willing to try most things to get into the ethos of the Dwarven army!

Watching lots of warriors at the moment, will bid on some soon!  Need cannons.. Must have black powder overload.

speaking of starting dwarfs, i've just started painting the High King Thorgrim Grudgebearer on his Throne for the Nemesis Crown Campaign and i'm scared, well not scaed as such just i really don't want to mess up the paint job i do on him, mainly because he is going to be the centre piece of my army, no matter how well painted the rest of the army is as soon as i put him on the table people are going to want to look at it, so i have to do a good job!!

sorry for the rant but i needed to :) ?:p ? ?now to start painting!!!!!!!!

Remember purple is the royal colour - so Thorgrim is definately going to have some on him. No too much, think more Motley Crue and less Boy George. (Hang on I am getting stuck between gaming systems/companies.) basicaly i'd go Purple trim then dark the rest of the scheme, Make Thorgrim the white shining knight on his shield (with a few blood splatters) and the bears cover there trousers (pants to the US crowd) in mud. It gives a good divide between the bearers and the king. Shining knight and dirty squires.

Hopefully I've got some warriors and longbeards on the way now..

Just need some cannons, probably the first thing I should have ordered and it turns out to be one of the last.  :(

Over the weekend I was talking to the guy who I'll mainly be playing.  He has got hold of a Chaos lord on a dragon, with the magic items and extra's this thing weighs in at around 800pts he says!

OMG how do I deal with something like that?  Do they not just take off turn 1 then land on my cannons and projectile troops turn 2 onwards? What can I take to try and kill off this beast of a character?

Glass half full - get rid of that character and the game is more than half won.

The odd tough character close by the cannon (such as a good slayer); shooting at the beastie; and good deployment are what could help. Remember, in turn one he can advance, but should not be able to charge as he would be out of range. So bang away with all you've got at him. Good use of decoys, or any delaying tactics could help too. Don;t put the guns too close to each other. And a large unit with lots of ranks - repeat RANKS - which he does not have help. Anything which can enhance the combat bonus given to any such unit would be good to have.

So (1) deploy well with arty a bit spread out (2) try to get first turn (3) have some big unit close by (for Chaos, stay back and let him come, so a large unit close to arty is not a problem (4) have a slayer or more at hand (5) maul him with all your fire, get some damage done - but watch out for any cavalry or furies.
A god move might be to have a big tough unit with a cannon on either side of it - whichever he goes for, he'd be threatened by the unit if you deploy carefully - making sure you can somehow charge him once he's mauled a gun. Again, slayers may help to make things more confusing for him.
Just don't ignore the rest of the army in the meantime - don;t move your troops in reaction to him. And watch out for any mounted marauders in small packs - if he's clever, he'll take them; if not, it's easier for you.
I can never remember a chaos lord on dragon in a 2000-point army ever attaining victory in any of our local games.

Hey - if he wants to fight with a beardy character - out beard him...

The limited edition model - either sourced from GW or converted.

Gotrek and Bugman holding up the White Dwarf on a shield.

Nothing gets close...

you don't have to be that Beardy to beat him, all you need to do is take a Runelord and equip him with a rerollable +1 armour save and +4 ward save,  take the Anvil of Doom, strike Wraith and Ruin at the characher on the dragon and it's not going to be able to fly and will only be able to march 6 inchs!

so as long as you can roll that +2 you'll get at least 3 turns of shotting at it :) !!!!

a little bit beardy but nothing compared to Thorek!!!

Guns, ranks and deployment.

Oh, and be careful with the terror bit.

By the way, I forgot to add the health warning - Vanvlak almost always loses his battles....  :p

Thanks guys, I was thinking something along the lines of a thane or lord guarding the cannons and thunderers/quarellers.

He'd be armed with the runes that make everything greater than S5 - to S5 then put double strength for things tougher than T5.   Add re rollable save on the 1+ and I think that should be 3+ re roll save each time?

Add in ward save just in case..

Either that or just lots more cannons to match his points costs!

Yeah was looking at a dragon slayer (aptly enough!) but not sure how it would work out with him running around on his own?

Anyone got any ideas on good rune combo's for a slayer?

@All

What are your opinions on the Hammerers versus Ironbreakers debate?  The most common favourite seems to be Hammerers but I am really struggling to choose between the two!

The dwarf list I have in mind is an offensive one using Strollaz's rune, if that makes any difference.

How many models does it take to create a rank in warhammer now? In the dwarf book it seems to be 4 as a minimum but the main rule book it looks more like 5... I cannot find any real hard and fast rule for it though?
