Hi there! I'm a big fan of the EpicA rules. I also love my 28mm 40k minis (Say what?!), however, none of the rulesets appeal to me (That's better! There's some hope for me yet!). Why not play 40k with EA rules? I know there have been previous attempts at this, but I haven't been able to find any feedback or discussion on them, so I made my own! You all know the conversion can't be direct, vehicles being the main issue, however, I wanted to keep the changes to the rules to a minimum. Generally speaking: - All Measurements are in Inches => Divide distance in cm by 2,5. - Treat all Vehicles as War Engines except for embarking and disembarking. - New Type of unit (Heavy Infantry), that can be shot at by both AP and AT (as a LV). - Characters are no longer upgrades to units, but a Unit on their own. They can act independently for the whole game or join a formation at deployment. We've made a few games to get to a stage where we feel we've achieved a stable basic ruleset. From the games we played, it didn't feel we were playing EA with large models, it felt like its own game, which was the main goal. We're now at the stage of balancing the Army Lists. The latest version (1.0.1) can be found here: Armageddon 40k V1.0.0 Armageddon 40K V1.0.1 Cover & Specific Rules Codex Astartes Space Marines Chaos Space Marines Imperial Guard Eldar Ork War Horde V1.0.1 Changelog: Small Corrections Psychic Powers added Some Characters got their own entry Alterations to the weapon list to better emulate 40K weapons Old file is still available So, anyone care to test these and leave feedback? Cheers! |

I hear that bolt action is a 28mm ruleset with lots of the best bits of EA in it.... may be worth checking out? I'm fairly sure the gates of antares game is just bolt action in spaaaaace so would probably be a good ruleset to use your 40k models with ![]() |

So, after a few months, we've managed to play a few games with these rules and are quite pleased with them. The game plays well and with few modifications to the base rule set. I've updated the link to the new version, that has seen a major overall in look and function. Right now we've got the following Army Lists: Space Marines Imperial Guard Eldar Orks Chaos Space Marines Next step is to balance the Army Lists, starting with Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines. If anyone is interested in giving it a go, let me know what you think. |

Looks interesting Kalrath. Ironically I've been mulling over doing the exact opposite, and minting single epic models on 25mm bases to play groundscale 40k (well 30k actually) with epic models. Where weapon ranges are more realistic. This would give me some other options with my 28mm models. I will take a look. |

Great! I'll be looking forward to your feedback. One thing I didn't mention before, is the reason for the format of the army list entries. The plan is to print each on half A5 sheet and use them as army cards, as the old datafax cards or the old space marine army cards. I'm currently looking at the weapons list. Looking to change SA and BC weapons a bit to have some more depth. I'm also looking to increase the number and function of psychic powers. As for your project, that sounds interesting. Care to share a bit more? |

You know, I think 40k would become an infinitely more viable rule set with alternating activations alone. It's not a terrible set of rules otherwise. Suddenly fast attack options find their niche as quick reaction forces and teleporting at the exactly the right time could really work out for you. Most importantly it would let you interrupt your opponents battle plan as it unfolded rather than get smashed on turn one with no way to retaliate. Happy days. Waaaaay more tactical depth too. The only other major thing to port over imho would be the more decisive assault phase. But what do I know, I dislike the 40k rule set as it stands immensely. |

Well, I like the play style of Epic, and I think it translates well to larger scale minis, hence this attempt. As for W40k, I don't like the concept of the rules. Not being an alternate activation game is a big turn off. There are also other issues. Also, have you seen the size of the rulebook and codices? Since I like Epic, and either way, adaptations would have to be made, either 40k to alternate activations (harder in my opinion since there are a lot more rules to contemplate) or epic with new army lists and slight modifications, I'll go for epic. As for a complete new ruleset, like gates of antares, I'd have to develop new army lists as well... There's also the bonus that with a single ruleset, I can play both scales! |

Good points Kalrath! I haven't played 40k for an edition or two, and didn't really consider the cost of the books. As an Australian with a mortgage and two kids GW have priced me out of the market there I think! Second hand books might be the way to go. I have seen that pocket 40k site and quite like what they've done. It's just a little fiddly for a clumsy bloke like me ![]() Anyway, I'll stop derailing your thread with my 6mm concept Kalrath. Your Epic rules for 28mm will be fun to try out. |

Sorry if it came across the wrong way. It wasn't meant as rebuke. Written words don't always get across the right mood (mine at least...). Just trying let people know my reasons for embarking on this project. |
