So, my local gaming store had a Warmachine intro afternoon, and I wandered down and got in a demo game. Its... OK. Quite fun and deeper than I was expecting.

So I thought that I would start a small force, paint up a few models to have to take along to some game nights. I wont be going all in on this one, so my first decision is picking a force. I have narrowed it down to either Mentoh or Cyriss - and leaning towards Cyriss right now. I am mostly looking at a Jack based force.

Menoth have a fantastic theme to them, and a couple of awesome Jacks (Castigator and Vigilant, primarily) but the others are all a bit samey and remind me a lot of the Goblin Knights from the Labrynth movie!

Cyriss models are all pretty cool, although not so evocative to paint, and very different, although the mini range is more limited.

I have heard that they both play similarly - combo attacks to make underpowered units great, slow and heavy generally. Any input on what force to go with, or details on how these two forces play on the table?

Thanks.

Just put in an order for a Convergence of Cyriss Heavy Vector, so that's the first step taken for me.

I have little experience with Cyriss, and most of my playing days were at least 5 years ago. I was a big Khador player during that time. I can tell you that Menoth 'jacks suck for the most part, it's the synergy with other units that make them work.

That echoes the advice that I was given and told that it applies to Convergence forces too. Without exploiting the synergy, you are basically walking onto the battlefield with a host of underpowered, over priced Jacks.

I expect to lose a lot of my initial games.

Convergence don't follow the normal rules for Focus allocation either, so as a Hordes player I tend to get a bit lost when I play against them!

I enjoy WM/H a lot, though you can get drawn into the 'take it too seriously' brigade rather easily.

I agree with that 100%.

Yeah, I saw that they can pass spent focus to another Vector within 6". Plus they have repair and some very nice weapons. Really liking this faction. Plus, because of the design they look less...... oddly proportioned.

I will really try to avoid the 'take it too seriously' brigade. I know that there are local tournaments but right now I just want to learn to rules and paint some minis.
