So, I like to gripe, I like the 40K universe, I don't like the rules that much... So I figured what the heck, I could make a list of things I'd like to see in 40K at some point, but which I probably never will! Feel free to add your own to this list!

1) Individual move values. They did it before, they can certainly do it again. A little clever rule writing and you could even keep the same turn basis, too!

2) Codex: Dreadnoughts. Lets' face it, giant stompy machines of death are way cool. Dreadnoughts are one of the most awesome of these for their heroic value and visual appeal. Add to that the fact that there is some fluff to support this in the Armageddon campaign where they fielded a group of something like 100 dreadnoughts from 5 different chapters to take back a water processing plant, I think there's more then enough justification for a codex dedicated to the most venerable and ancient of Space Marines! Plus it'd be a perfect vessel to introduce things like a Librarian Dreadnought or some variant jump-pack dreadnoughts or something! In any case, it'd be really neat.

3) Codex(Possible White Dwarf): Mercenaries. These would be a cool diversion back towards 2nd edition. Small amounts of mercenary individuals who would fight for various different powers for wealth and/or common cause. Plus, who doesn't like the image of a group of Blood Axe orks being payed off by the IG to fight some tyranids for them!? Much better fight then the IG would offer, for sure!

4) Better Vehicle Rules. Let's face it, when any glance can wax your vehicle and even at the minimum stun it so it doesn't get to fire you get a little over protective of these things which are -supposed- to be incredibly durable. The Land Raider is the 'ultimate machine' right up until someone points six lascannons at it! Then it's dead weight as it spends a turn stunned or shaken or immobilized or flat out destroyed. Especially bad as generally the amount of heavy weapons needed to take out those heavy targets are cheaper then the targets themselves are!

5) Dark Age Humans. These, I think, would be wicked cool. A group of humans who left the Human Empire say 15,000 years ago before the end of the Dark Age of Technology on a quest to find habitation in some other galaxy. Having encountered nothing but dead worlds in their many centuries of departure left behind in the wake of the Tyranids, they brought their ships home to find the galaxy in a state of war. A combination of being waylayed in the warp and the intensely long trip between galaxies means they've only recently returned with the scant few remaining ships. Colonizing a few of the ghost stars on the fringe of the galaxy after discovering the state of affairs and lacking the functional power to fight the Imperium alone. Small in number, controlling some of the most powerful weapons in the history of the 40K universe, and intent to not see themselves bow to the corrupt beaurocracy of the Imperium nor to the predations of the aliens.

So there's my list in (roughly) order of things I think would be neat and/or fun. Anyone else got anything they'd like to add to this (Aside from Squats, as we know there are lots of people wanting them back already!)

Because Toughness 5+ and Wounds are SO much better than any Armour Value I would like to see Vehicles with Toughness and Wounds. I love tanks so it pains me to see them just vaporise in every battle so easily (well, once I had only one rhino and it just ignored something like 12 shots from lazcannons, if I remember correctly it just lost its Stormbolter).

So, I would like to see Wounds at least on Dreadnought and/or more durable tanks.

40k as a minimum has to have

A different turn sequence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Use the Epic or Warmaster system, please!!!

And preferably individual move distances. That was a simplification to far.

I could see them using something akin to the SST turn-system as well. Infact, at one point I was attempting to transfer stats from 40K to SST for that purpose!

I concur, though, but generally consider the turn-system problem to be more systemic in relations to the lethality level then anything else. And it'd either make IG really rediculously good or kinda crappy (I can just imagine an IG army with 18 squads in it. You'd out-activate everyone and everything like 3x over!)

You almost got your wish! The rumour is that Andy Chambers came up with a radical new direction when 40K 4th Ed was being worked on. But, GW rejected  the idea and wanted to keep the system along the lines of previous editions, to reduce the learning curve for existing players.

Shortly after, Andy left and joined Mongoose, where he became the lead developer on SST, taking all of his previous 40K ideas and incorporating them.

I am not sure how true this is, but the time line matches, and it does have the sound of truth about it. Personally, I am not a huge fan of the SST rules (or 40K 4th!). There are too many compromises in it for my liking.

What I would generally like to see in 40K is a more general thought process. I would like to see tanks and armour de-emphasised, and grenades that can be actually thrown!  :blues:  There are generally too many points in the rules where background and ideas have been bent to fit the scope of 40K.
