We played our first intro game of Apocalypse; Chaos and Necrons vs Eldar, IG, Marines. About 26K worth of points on the table. We had a total of 2 Warhounds and 3 Baneblades plus a few fliers. Chaos won the 3-turn game capturing 3 objectives while our opponents held none. My Deathguard did well losing only 6 Plague Marines the entire battle and my Warhound soaked an incredible amount of incoming fire and remained operational at the end of the game to boot! Of course everyone forgot their digital cameras so here we go with my phone-cam: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Ah but you don't say - did you have fun? ![]() ![]() ![]() It reminds me of when i was a wee lad and my mates parents would abandon their house for the weekend. Being a wild bunch we immediately got out the models and being kids the choice of game was naturally 40k. Why not Epic? well the scale wouldn't have fitted... Houseageddon! The sides were always our Imperial guard (featuring the Tony C scratch built baneblade of course) plus Toms marines vs my marines (with scratch built box thunderbricks). Gives you an idea that kids today are identical to those 15 years ago. One side would defend and the other all marine side would land on the top floor and attempt to reach the back door by afternoon Sunday. Once a model was dead it was out of the game and the reserves line was two foot or so back from the action. I imagine that games like this are the inspiration behind the above, though I hope the system has been speeded up! Still though I can't hack many of the post 2nd ed core rules so it is not for me! |

I was not very enthused when I heard of Apocalypse, I thought if you want big battles - play Epic! And I still hold that Epic is the game of choice for large mass battles. But what I was pleased about Apocalypse after reading the book is that it seems to aspire to recapture the friendly games of bygone years (Rogue Trader) rather than the beardy tournament inspiration of current 40K. It completely changes the way the battles are set up and fought, thus I like it. Where it lacks however is that some beardy tournament players may not leave their attitude at the door, but that is not the games fault, that's players. But it does give the opportunity to realisz they can leave the attitude behind... |
