I'll have to agree with Primarch, again ... at least with Points #1 and #2. And it's too easy to do, while sitting in an easy chair, with my wireless key board and 36 inch Toshiba as a monitor. Technology is a good thing ...

Quote (Jimbo @ 06 2003 Sep.,06:22) | I am not sure who has done it (but I guess it was Maksim) but someone has changed the title of this thread.
It now reads
Imperial Armour Book - Black Library
It should read
Imperial Armour Book
(at least Armour was not changed to Armor)
Can I state for the record, I have asked for my posts NOT to be "edited". I especially don't like them to be edited and changed to be "wrong". |
This has happened to a couple of my posts this week too, which I have found annoying and unusual in this "free thinking" forum.
Like others, I dont mind when something I wrote is reformatted to emphasis the point, but changing the title is pretty peeving.
Now I'm not as upset as Jimbo at the moment, and I know you havent intentionally annoyed me, but please stop -whoever it was.

Shabbat Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak. | Most certainly- no hard feelings whatsoever. I just wanted to point out this foible so that it doesnt fester.
I admire and appreciate the time you put into moderating the forum.

Back to the contents of this book, would those esteemed few who hold the tome mind checking up on which vehicles are considered Amphibious (ie self swim capability? I would imagine its in there with all those pages!
I'll put the info into the draft Amphibious rules for "Saving Guardsman Ryan"
Many Thanks!

I know the Chimera (and I guess therefore all variants) are amphibious - however I don't have the book to hand to check the rest, but I am pretty sure that the Leman Russ isn't

Quote (primarch @ 05 2003 Sep.,14:05) | ...I've met people with 10-12 40k scale leman russes, FW baneblades and 40k scale titans and although they'll never get them all on the table they continue to buy more... | If you think thats bad you should have seen my friends Space Marine army during the 2nd Edition period. He had no less than 3 land raiders, 5 rhinos and numerous tank variants of the rhino. Though obviously he never had the chance to field them all.
It was kind of odd as a IG player I only ever had two LR Demolishers and they are meant to be the "treadheads" army.

Quote (primarch @ 10 2003 Sep.,02:33) | One guy at the local store when I lived in NY had 10, yes ten leman russes a baneblade, a dozen chimeras and a reaver and warhound titan.
I wont even get into the amount of IG troopers he had. HE was actually coping epic style organizations in 40k troops. | I was thinking about this as I read the WD article in the new IG Codex this morning. There are a lot of people who are already playing Epic, but they are just using 40K rules for it. Now, if there was a way to plug in to that market, there would be a lot of untapped players who would really like the game.

yeah Primarch that is just bizarre....Makes you wonder quite deeply.
Most epic players only field a single Russ company too....
The most disturbing thing I have ever seen to do with gaming was when I went on the "tour" at GW HQ. I thought it was very well done, you go around the showcase room with everything form mass dioramas (yes thats where they go after they tour the country and Games Day) to single figures I recognised from the earliest 'Eavy Metal pages. Really great stuff... There were also some 1:1 scale mok-ups of helmets, bolters, terminator armour, a genestealer etc
There was this kid- maybe 10 yrs old, asking all these questions. Talk about a fluff guru, this guy was the fanboy from hell. Asking everything about anyhting and pretty much a pig in muck. He was asking detailed questions about how a lasgun operated until the GW guy had to stop and ask him if he realised it all wasnt real. This kid was so delusional he thought the whole background somehow meshed with reality- it was very sad. He of course didnt believe the poor GW guy.
When he grows up he'll probably own 10 x 40k Leman Russ and a Baneblade too

Problem: it is easier to collect/paint/play 40k simply because they already have a bigger player base there. Sad but true. I can't even DARE to think about plaing Epic. I would simply collect an army but be completely unable to play. No opponents. 40k is more "shinny" to new players as well since they miniatures are good and way easier to paint than in Epic, even if the new epic minis are simply astonishing. The players might be there, but the sells go to 40k because they hold the market. More or less this also happens with BFG and other minor games in the GW range, but it is less noticeable (even if you cannot buy BFG in regular GW stores in Spain, you have to use mail order) since there is not a clear alternative in the encliosed GW universe (manowar no longer being a supported game).
*rant mode off*
Regards,
Xavi

That's too bad ... a world dominated by 40K and no Epic ... sad really. You have my condolences ...

..Going back to the original topic, I got my copy of the IA book at GamesDay (and got it signed ) and I have to agree with Jimbo- real quality- very nicely presented and produced, full to bursting with loads of cool fluff, cutaways, and some fantastic 'photoshopped' photographs that are very convincing...
Highly rccomended!
