Marines seem under priced compared to Eldar?

Seems more than a "bit" ironic from ELDAR player. ELDAR that are THE marine killing army out there ?

I always thought that Marines were meant to be expensive uber warriors. ?Doesn't seem to be that way at present.

Marine with ST4, T4, WS4, BS4 Save 3+ plus missile launcher only 26pts?

Yet for a guardian squad to have a missile launcher it is 45pts or something for a much worst stats?

I think this is being resolved in the new book anyway.

I was out numbered during that demo game 17 to 13 how is that?

No terrain? ?You should have at least 25% of the table covered with terrain in 4th edition. ?More terrain is better, IMO.

An open shooting ground is not a good arena for any army.

Yeah we need to get much more scenery on the board.  Got a game this weekend and I'm going to have to dig out some old warhammer stuff to use I think.

Oh does anyone know of a good counter for a predator with twin linked lascannons and two heavy bolter sponsons?  I was thinking Falcon with Fire Dragons in it charging at 24" per turn until in unload range?  Or is that suicide?

The Guardian Missile Launcher Platform also includes 2 more guardians, doesn't it?

While the Fire Dragons can do a number on the Predator, I'd put the twin-linked Brightlance turret on the Wave Serpent.  Start behind cover, turn 1 advance to the next piece of cover (about 18" away), then turn 2 advance no more than 12" (to be within 12" of the Pred), unload Fire Dragons, brightlance + fusiongun the Pred.  Brace for counter-assault (tooled CC Exarch is recommended).  Doing the same thing with a Falcon would work, possibly better, but the Wave Serpent doesn't take up a Heavy Support slot.

Lion just summed it up. Even in 40k the biggest asset of Eldar is mobility. Their vehicles can move 12" and still fire the main weapon and Bright Lance is a bane of armor. Plus IIRC if they move over 6" they can only gat glancig hits.

Eldar vehicles can move 12" and fire main weapon PLUS any weapon with str 6 or lower... so its worth uppgrading the shuriken catapults to cannons. But if you have a choise between a shuriken cannon and something else - go for the starcannon. The shur can. cannot ignore saves on most troops youll be fighting.

As for negative feelings regardning starcannon spam - its rediculus: the starcannon kills marines as good as a heavy bolter kills most eldar - and cost 3 times as much, with BS3! I do not complain if a marine brings Heavy bolters, and voe the marine player that complains if i bring starcannons.

The pulse laser is a understrenght lascannon - go for twinlinked brightlances on wave serpent or a single on a wraithlord. Otherwise haywire grandes does wonders vs vehicles, but vs Tau skimmers its better to shoot them down than CC them.

Ok I've got the following for an 850 pt battle (Biel Tan Craftworld) -

Avatar

Dark Reapers (4)
Banshees (4 + Exarch)
Fire Dragons (4 + Exarch with Firepike)

Falcon (Scatter laser, crystal targetting matrix, holo fields)
Wraithlord (Starcannon)
War Walker (Bright Lance, Scatter Laser)

I suspect I'll be facing the following -

Librarian

2 x 6 Marine squad
1 x 5 Assault squad
1 x 5 scout snipers

1 x razorback
1 x predator
3 x bikes

I've got other options and I still have time to go buy stuff! (I've not got a Fire Prism or Wave Serpent as yet)

Or should I go for this -

Farseer (guide)

Dark Reapers (4 + Exarch with Shuriken Cannon and crack shot)
Fire Dragons (4 + Exarch with Firepike and Tank Hunter)
Banshee (4 + Exarch with Executioner)
Scorpions (4 + Exarch with scorpions claw)

Wraithlord with starcannon
War walker with bright lance and scatter laser

This gives me more troops on the field but I don't have the falcon.. The reapers should rip holes in the marines though as they can ignore armour and with guide re roll to hits.  The exarch will be nasty up close as he can re roll to wound and to hit (with guide) so only leaves a save (probably!)

Have to have extensive terrain though

oh we are doing take and hold on the centre of the battlefield.  This will be a medieval type village I expect, representing an agri world that the Eldar seeded and want back.

Lots of terrain needed I think.

Hi all,

Had a couple of games of 40k over the weekend, it's just such a clunky and nasty rule system...

Anyway enough moaning, I found that Falcon's with Crystal Targetting Matrix's operate so well...  Killed a Predator and a Razorback in the first game and then held up two marines squads in the second.

The move fire move ability is being taken away though in the new codex isn't it?  :(

Not unless they decide Falcon isn't a "fast" vehicle, which I find somewhat unlikely. The movement rules are in the v4 rulebook so they at least won't change for some time.

umm I must have missed that fast units can do that?  I bought a targetting matrix so that I could do the move fire move thing??

It's already an aspect of the fast ability in version 4?
