I like the new ideas, personally. It's a much better fleshing-out of the race and the way it still nods to the old design is smart. Essentially, the old fluff is really only "what has been discovered so far" about the Necrons and the "big picture" is now emerging. I've always liked extra fluff and hidden knowledge stories so it works for me.

Also, to me, if the Emperor is actually an Eldar plot and still alive and living in deepest, darkest Abbottabad, Pakistan then there's a good story to be told about why and how it was discovered and what will actually occur. Otherwise, stuff gets stale without these little surprises. Potential futures are more fun.

Looking at the pics on http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/po ... 03994.page I actually quite like a lot of it. Ok, the Command Barge is rubbish, but many of the new troops are nice (lynchguard and deathguards especially) and the arks too.

I'm disappointed they didn't make any robot skulls in animal shapes. I guess it's up to me.

Might be just me, but.. The new models remind me enormously of Mega Man. Each of the HQ guys just look poised to do a small dance number to that tune, then force you to wade through his army, and when you kill him mano-a-mano you acquire his weapon.

The 'command barge' is nothing else than Dr. Wily's ship, really.

And just when you thought GW distanced 40k from Warhammer In Space, Tomb Kings In Space feels really stupid... That said, I'll be glad to finally have a codex with lots of options. The models and fluff are simple to convert when they don't please me. I don't much care about fluff details, just style in general.

the old ctan werent awesome enough to be the gods they're supposed to represent, but it could be easily explained away by saying they can only manifest a portion of their powers in one place (kinda like the imprisoned shards plot, only less stupid, thanks MW)
beyond that, and the crap they sorta linked in with the starchild plotline (which while stupid, is still better in a 80s sci-fi way, than this new "necrons and blood angels are bffs" shite) the current fluff is pretty fine. suits the necrons.

i am seriously considering redacting any copy of the new necron codex if i get it (but even moreso, considering just mothballing my beautiful necrork army entirely)

As far as I remember, in th role codexs, the c'tan could only manifest on the battlefield in a specially prepared living metal vessel called a necrodermis. Tis handily explained their less-than-star-crushing power and also added some cool Necron-Eldar links as this was identical to the way the Avatar worked.

In fact, now its possibly even closer, as Kaine was split into hundereds of fragments (shards) which manifest on the material plane via an empty metal shell.
