Hello everybody, I'm new to the forum though have seen evidence of its reach for a long time now. I'm an avid gamer in many scales and a 3d designer and printer by trade.

When it comes to tiny army men I have a lot to show and tell, but I think I can't make a better introduction for myself than sharing some of my work on what I am calling "ghiblipunk" A style of dieselpunk drawing from the works of studio ghibli (and its main artist, Miyazaki) and the sources they drew from such as Albert Robida's work from the 1880's

This whole business got started a couple of years back when I tried to make a 1/300 version of the "Akuyaku 1 Go" tank. An amazing 1/72 scale model kit designed by Miyazaki.

Being quite pleased with the model and the responses to it I long toyed with the idea of doing more models in this style, but less blatantly copying existing designs.

As happens with these things I soon started thinking up a world for these vehicles to live in, and painting miniatures for it, and building terrain...

Image

(models are irregular miniatures Franco Prussian war french, which happen to exactly match the soldiers in howls moving castle...)

The second vehicle and one much more of my own design was the "Albatros" an ornithopter seaplane.

Putting that all together you might start to get a feeling for the shape this world is taking in my head.

Now the real breakthrough for this project has come when I started Talking to Eli Arnt of loud ninja games about the style, and he generously shared some of his older sketches and ideas. From that came the "stork" an anti-tank variable wing pusher prop attack aircraft.

Image

Since the creation of that one I've re-done the pelican as a larger model with more shaped wings, and created a shrunken down version of the Stork as it is a bit on the large side. Plus there are about half a dozen vehicles in various stages of design as Eli and my interests go all over the place.

I have a lot more pictures, but I figured not to spam too many in my first post.

Actually no, the tanks from Nausicaa are a lot smaller and semi-open topped. This is based on a 1/72 model that was specifically designed for that purpose. It comes with 24 pig crewmen as well. That's not political, they are actual pigs. One is a chef and another is a butler. its a big tank, they get goo service apparently. ;D

Great fan of all things Miyazaki and studio Ghibli here too. Looks like you're capturing their feel really well. I'm looking forward to seeing how this develops :)
