I just received the replacement masters, so I'm going to attempt a mold this weekend.

With the holiday, I wasn't able to get a mold done. I'm shooting for this weekend - I'll update as required.

Sad, frustrating development: After pouring the mold yesterday, I went down today to look at the results. Everything appeared to be good - until I started demolding the masters. The rubber damn near adhered to the front and side wall sections. it was a miserable pain to remove the mold from the parts, and considerable torquing of the parts occurred in an effort to remove them from the mold.

One of the windows in the side wall mold wound up tearing out, so I'll have to remold that part. Unfortunately, that master part is now warped and a piece broke off due to the effort required to remove it from the mold.

At this point, I need to do two things:

1) Examine the parts and see if they are salvageable. The roof panels should be ok, and I'm hoping the front is in a usable condition. Hopefully the side wall is still usable, or else I'm going to have to have another printed.

2) Get some new RTV. The stuff I'm currently using is Smooth-On's clear translucent line of RTV. I have had nothing but trouble with this stuff, and would recommend it be avoided by anyone looking to make a mold. I'll have to order a batch of the reliable pink stuff.

GAH!

I'm assuming you hit the master with the release agent spray? Maybe you just got a bad batch or the 15T? I've used it on Shapeways FUD and didn't have an issue with the de-molding.

My experiences with FUD and Smooth-On were quite varied. Some pieces would be very clingy, others not.

Even with the mold release, this appears to be a "clingy" situation. Very disappointed. >:(

No - Friday was pretty much taken up with my wife's surgery, and I forgot I had a dental appointment yesterday. Today was Comcast coming by and doing a new install. I'll probably wind up doing the mold sometime this week. Fortunately, I was able to find a suitable replacement for the broken piece from the previous print.

Oh, yeah - everything is fine. It was just an outpatient thing, but she was laid up for the day. Thanks for the concern though. :)
