Hi! I've traded a couple (2) of plastic caos cruisers with a friend, to "upgrade" my fleet, and I would like some advice from you on "what cruisers to build"... Here is the (small) list of the ships of my caos fleet: - Repulsive CGC - Hades CHC - Devastation CC - Murder CC - Slaughter CC - 2x3 Infidel CR Now, I was thinking about building another "devastation", and either another murder or carnage, but the idea of another slaughter is quite interesting too... Wanna share a comment? Thanks in advance! Cheers Axt |

Paired Slaughters can be very deadly indeed so go for it with one of you new models, but for the sake of variety I would build a cruiser you don't already have with the other- maybe a Carnage, as then you can use it as a Murder too if it doesn't suit you. |

I would certainly make up a Devastation and a Slaughter. A single Dev can be fairly easy to neutralise, but a pair of these, well seperated or squadroned together for their lances, can be dangerous. For similar reasons, a single Slaughter can find itself isolated, so I would support it with some Escorts or a second Slaughter. |

,Good p[oints so far. 2 slaughters work well together. I simply do not ise them like that that often. Acrtually, any of the core cruisers would be a good choice. The muurder and the hades use the same model unless yu convet a murder to actually have prow lances so you get a 2x1 there. OTOH you will be fielding 2 murders only rarely, even if I field a murder and a carnage more regularly. basically I almost always tweam up my murder with a hades and ther you go with the chaos long range firepower ![]() Now, on the issue of the devastation. 2 work perfectly well and can throw a load of AC for 380 pts. if you use them, it is usually wise to field them squadroned. Reasons - you get to use the higher leadership of both ships to reload ordenance and other special orders - One leadership roll to reload only. if you fail it, it is a more efficient use of a reroll. - They can shield each other if squadroned. Since the hits in a squadron are always allocated to the nearest ship in the squadron you can have one of them absorving fire for a few turns and when it is heavily damage move it to the back, so that the new, fresh and shinny companion of the first one is the nearest target for the enemy to smash. Keeps them rolling loads of ordenance much longer. As a footnote squadroning them for the lances is not worth it. For WB, yes, but not for lances. Lances hit on a 4+ regarless of intervening blast markers and the like, so it is not very sound to squadron them for that reason. Squadroning them for the previous reasons more than compensate for this, though ![]() health and sixes, Xavi |

As I predicted, another devastation is a "must" to the fleet. Not sure yet about the other... Would it matter on the choice, if I said that my regular opponents use either Imperial or Space Marine fleets? Cheers Axt |

Higher armour than most fleets, especially on SM vessels, so more lances are better- perhaps you could try out an Acheron? |

Thats an option I havent thought about... And it would have the "variety" for it. How often do you guys use it or see it being used? Cheers Axt |

I have used an acheron. It is not a bad ship. The design is opposed to that of the Hades: instread of a ship that is very good in a frontal assault, the acheron is better on a broadside engagnement. Due to the fact that lances always hit on a 4+ and do not have their power reduced by distance, you can circle the opponent at a longer distance (40-45 cm) while shooting at him. Is not a bad ship as a second HC. If your oppomnents have armour 6+ in a lot of locations (SM do) then it might be the ship you need. The Hades is better while the fleets are closing, while the Acheron is better to manoeuvre around the enemy engaging him in a broadside firefight. OTOH, I don't like the looks of the cheron, and this is why I don't have one built myself, but hey. Regards, Xavi |
