When one wants to be insane.

Back when I started 40k I had no named model.

When I started Battlefleet Gothic I started Chaos, came up with ships names and a Warmaster name: Amon D?n. After a few years I decided to split my Chaos fleet in two: I kept one half as Chaos and repainted the other to a more Renegade fleet. To justify this I wrote a background story for the Renegade fleet under command of Khurzon Reznard aboard the Desolator class Battleship Frozen (before turning renegade known as the Emperor?s Shadow). This was 5 pages long?..

Then I got some Corsair Eldar plus the Flame of Asuryan model. Not wanting to use it as is I wrote a background tidbit for Eldar admiral Akaeris Starblade aboard the (now called Spirit of Arina (as a dedication to my wife (Angelique), daughter (Nina) and son (Rick)).
But instead of a long story I wote more of small snippets for this one, like the ones in Eldar MMS. Currently developing (started in 2005) a story driven campaign (linked scenario?s).
I also wrote a few chapters for the Medusa Campaign, expanding a little on the Corsair part. The adding of Craftworld vessels during the years did not change the story only the campaign (doh).

Now in 2006 (up to February 2007) I made start to a novel: Divine Desiny, after 120 pages inspiration dried. But I did build a kitbashed merchantmen featuring in this story: the Angelic (posted couple of times) under command of Artelus Grey. This story also introduced the characters called Inquisitor Horatio Luvern and Maz Torl plus the grandchildren of Artelus: Maros and Gynda.
I also included material from forum member Xisor (Khareshi Expanse, Lord Inquisitor Revic) and others.

Now Akaeris Starblade witnessed a happening described in the novel before the novel was written.

Then in 2007 I completed my Tau Commerce Protection fleet under command of Kor?o Ry?zon, he would make a guest appearance towards the end of the novel. A I have written a rather comprehensive career profile for him.

Currently I am painting / building an Adeptus Mechanicus fleet under command of Magos Explorator Inachus Tynton. He is connected to the Angelic and the design it belongs to. That design Aegidius led to this: I build 2 light cruisers and 1 cruiser out of parts! Yes, stats in the works plus background. Currently Inachus Tynton entered the Anargo sector (ha, yeah, check them out).

Now this saturday I placed an order at Forgeworld, 3 Hunters for the AdMech and an Grey Knight Strike Cruiser. Why the Grey Knight Strike Cruiser? Well I just liked the friggin model. Now this one will be a Novamarines Strike Cruiser (dedicated to Reg Steiner and his Tyranid War story) named the Daedalus under command of Captain Veliaz. Now check out which movie I dedicate there?..

?and than there is a whole lot more which will be added as soon as it is set in stones?

oh, every single ship or escort squadron in my collection is named?..

Absolutely! I have two main BFG fleets - Chaos and Eldar. Each of these consists of more than 54 vessels of all classes. Every one of these vessels, in both fleets, is named individually. The Chaos ones are all named after demonology, and each has been researched (finding fifty demon names is not as easy as it sounds!).

Perfectly rational... I think!  :p

It might be abnormal, but at least we're all being abnormal together.  :D

Actually, I was beginning to think that I was being abnormal for not naming all my Titans, Gargants, etc. Although, I have named by Squat Land Trains, Mordin's Hammer and Orc Bane.

*They* say that "Great minds think alike"

*They* also say that "Fools seldom differ".

Now, I don't know who *They* are, but it seems that *They* have a lot to answer for. Personally speaking I think I belong to the former group, though my wife disagrees (naturally). So I guess it is a matter of perspective (and which group of *They* you belong to)
:D

Yes, I think it is, actually :D

My own tale of insanity, at the present moment, involves a 40k Chaos Space Marine army, The Legion of Taurus.

What I had originally planned to be a 'quick' army for fun, has turned in to an (excuse the expression) Epic affair.  The background narrative I had in mind for this army has become an approximately 5,000 words Index Astartes article, two short stories, with another two currently being written and another three planned - all to tell an ongoing 'story' with this army.

I have even planned a BFG fleet to tie with this army, and two epic armies (CSM/Black Legion & L&tD).

But this is not unusual, as in the past I have frequently given names, background and other details to my armies, their commanders, war engines, and such.

So Blackhorizon, I can fully empathise/sympathise (delete as applicable :p ) with your 'insanity'... long may it continue :D

While I haven't gotten to actually naming all my marines and vehicles, it's on the list of things to do.  (Since I play Dark Angels, I need a copy of the big book of Angels and their Words... tough to find locally).

Don't worry about naming your forces, worry more that you're building a full company of Marines in 40k, and their entire Chapter in Epic and BFG!
