Hey vanvlak, good to see a Nid in the comp. I'm currently finishing modelling my Nid entry, still to paint it.

Wow Ehligen! (Hope I spelled it right!)
Nice work, conversions and painting.  Tell me, did you rob a model of "Bismark" for the turrets?  Was it 1/700 or 1/2000 scale.  I'm building a large (very) battle station/repair yard, and don't have enough bits left to 'decorate' all sides with weapons batteries and turrets.  A hint on scale would help a lot.  Thanks.  And throw us another bone or two to chew, more pictures can't hurt.

Close on the spelling, but I don't mind :)

Yep, I had a pair of the Revell 'Miniships' line of Bismark and Tirpitz that I used for those big turrets. I believe they were 1:1200 scale but I don't have the boxes anymore so I'm not sure. I think those specific kits are OOP now (haven't been able to ever complete my set of them) but I do see some of the American ones of the line of kits still on ebay.

By more pictures do you mean more entries or more angles of the ones that I've posted? Because I'm acutally out of conversions I really like :( (posted them all) I have some more that didn't quite live up to the expecations I had when starting them, but I could post those if you want.

edit: d'oh! I even forgot one that I wanted to post! Off to rectify that!

Some more pics of my Hive ship. From tusks to tail its as long as a I.N battleship, even longer if you include the hooks and feeder mouths.

Into the jaws of death

And size compare.

Say ehlijen,
I'm a Johnny-come-lately, and missed your previous posts.  But any pics you took but did not enter is fine by me.  Thanks for the scale hint.  I'm going to try Amazon, as well as ebay.  Sometimes stores list older stuff, even models, in such places.  Of course, I'll gladly pirate parts from any kit with small enough turrets and such.  Turrets from a Japanese cruiser next to American battleship turrets?  Sure, why not?!  Assuming any are still out there.
And I gotta comment on a battleship sized Tyranid!  Oh Yeah!  Much better than the bland stuff GW put out, and not everyone can convert 'Nids like White Dwarf pics.  I've wondered about using clay and baking it, but thought it might be too heavy.  Sure looks like it worked out!  Have you made other sizes of Nids?
G.F.

Well, then enjoy: The Ship-Gobbler!

A strike cruiser conversion with a massive prow launchbay. While I like the model, it's probably a bit too comical in proportion for most people. (It reminds me of the bond movie where a modified super tanker gobbels up submarines, can't remember the title though).

If you want other turrets: Try a 1:720 Yamato class ships. It has so many little AAA turrets it's going to last you a while.

Very nice, Your right about the zie of the launch bay, a little smaller or knock it off completely and you have a pretty cool SC or light cruiser.

Hey alll,
Wow, lotsa entries!
Here are some more pics of my Invictus entry.  Its supposed to be an upgunned, refitted Ultramarines ship, made after the "changing fleet doctrines" seen in the chapter's fleet after the battles with the tyranids.

Thanks,
CF

@G.F, thanks for comment. This is 1 of 3 BFG Nids I've done, the others are just 2 little drone escourts that I worked on inbetween working on this Hive ship.

I would recommend milliput rather than a clay you have to bake. It sets like rock and add some water can be very manageable whilst modelling.

The Hive ship does have a thin layer of green wash on it, to display age, and general space fungus type stuff. But didnt really come out in the pics.

Say ehlijen,
Have you ever seen the selection of "Space Fleet" miniatures GW put out long ago?  One in particular was a "battleship" with a huge turret sporting two enormous barrels.  I actually have two of them.  So big gun barrels on big turrets is not new around here.  They are used like twin Nova cannons.  Like the barrage rule in 40K, first one blast is located (scatter/hit die+D6), then a second scatter is rolled to place the second blast just touching the first.  To keep the local players from forming a lynch mob, we use a D3 for hits, anywhere in the blast zone.  No D6 for the center hole.  The only time an opponent could get seriously hurt is if both blasts 'straddle' a ship with both markers over a vessel.  Don't happen much, with a scatter die for placing both blasts.  The two 'Big Gun' ships are only cruisers, not battleships in our BFG, and only defensive weapons (turrets/shields) after the big guns.  If you use your big guns, did you likewise give them big hitting power, or just up the Weapons Batteries ability of the cruiser(s)??  Think about the idea of the D3 blast Nova guns. Oh, because of scatter and no-one always rolls a'3', the big guns blow right through shields, for direct damage.  My other battle mates find that having the shields still up after such a hit is a benefit, since I can't follow up with more damage from standard guns, until the shields are down.
Shucks! I have the habit of being long-winded, so I'll cut this off, and make another post for the rest of what I indended to reply to.
G.F.

Thanks eberious,
No one's posted since my last, so I'll jump in again.  I have some sculpy, and will have to try some things. I thought about carving some designs into soap blocks, that would be components of smaller Tyranid 'creatures'.  Press the sculpy firmly into the cavity and let firm up. It is the only way I can come up with for repeatablitlity of design for say, the hull, or claws.  I'll have to play around with the idea some more.
I posted a pic of one old 'Space Fleet' I still stick in to the odd game of BFG.  I use it as a cruiser.  My previous post had a fellow opponenet suggest I actually put up a picture.  They were from my old Nova Marine chapter fleet.  They are supposed to be blue, and red and gold trim.  Somehow the camera made them grey and yellow.  Here's another pose.

Nice work on the huge Niddy beast, on the Iron Hands, and I won't even comment on that Ultramarine monster :wow:

Galactic Fringe, those two old relics brought tears to my eyes - grand  8v)  :wow:

Thank you kindly, vanvlak.
I get use out of the other old ships I have, usually as a 'fill-in' fast troopship, et al.  They are quite plain because of that.  All this makes me think I should 'detail' the things, solidify some weapon schemes, and put them back into the fight!  Pity the things are so rare, and not available as 'bits' from GW.  By physical size, I have some light cruisers and escorts, instead of battleships and battlecruisers.  I guess I'll dig out the old "Emperor" battleship too.  It is quite 'clunky' compared to the other BFG models, but big enough to make a cruiser, if I can figure out how it should be armed.
Oh! Can't miss the chance to comment on the fiber-optic equiped ship ... Wow! would never have guessed that lighting could be made to work on these ships!  The paint work Kicks too!  So many totaly neat entries, I'm glad I'm not judging.  I wouldn't know how to seperate so many fine works.  I think nearly all the entries have "bragging rights" on some level.
G.F.

Galactic Fringe,

I have seen some of those big gun boats you mention on ebay, though I've never been able to actually win any of them. I always felt that they look like that old lego kit with the culverin cannon turret on the rowing boat :D

I usually just use them as oversized representations of what the ship is meant to have. Ie Bombardment cannons for SM ships, 'torpedo cannons' for others. I mainly used those turrets for looks. Given how much my usualy opponent hates my regular NCs I don't think I can sell the idea of barrage ones to him no matter how much less damage they do...

For more fun, an orbital drydock:
