Hello there!

After geting seriously beaten by eldar this afternoon (man, those are some seriously FAST escorts) I got challenged by my old fleet and actal nemesis: a chaos fleet. We were playing in the local gaming society in university and it appeared that other BFG dudes are around! Unbelievable but great :D 2 other dudes play there, an imp and a chaos player.

So there we go. I have a challenge for next week. We banned battleships from the game until everybody gets at least one of them (well, house rule :)) so I had to think about a non BB fleet. I don't have grand cruisers either so I have the option to assemble and field a battlecruiser at most. My election has been an armageddon. Why? Because it is a lunar and I have a mad idea: I will be fielding a lunar fleet.

Basically I thought "hey, lunars are very common and have lads of variants (NC, dictator, armageddon...) that come from its hull so why not ield a lunar fleet? :)

So there we go. I am aware that other combos like geting a gothic would be more effective against chaos but let's see if you can tear that appart ;)

-Fleet Admiral Selenius Moon. Ld8 50 pts

- Armageddon

- Lunar with NC
- Lunar with NC
(those 2 are squadroned and I already like them since they were the only ones causing any significant damage in the eldr before dying, heheheh)

- Dictator

- Enforcer

- 3 swords
- 3 firestorms
- 4 cobras
- 4 falchions

So there we go. The most common fleet you will ever face. 4 lunars at once. LOL!

TOTAL: 1500. Nice enough or does it has any flagrant shortcommings? I miss the extra reroll of the admiral but driping a falchion to get it ...dunno. They will lose the WB 12 that they have now, that is quite a funny thing to have as well as 4 torps :;): )

I personally fear the slaughters over all the other things he can throw at me. They worked well for me, so guess. I have a nice air cover of 6 markers so that is no biggie and I expect the NCs to make short work of escorts (hopefully) so I expect regular firepower to decide the event for him in this case. Long range lances (Hades) slaughters and I suppose that 1 or 2 devastations or a murder tocomplement the hades. At least that is what I would take but I have no idea about him since I have not played him yet. :)

Well, the dinner is served. time to tear it appart!

Cheers,

Xavi

It looks good.  I dont see any real weakness' (a couple more escorts would be nice, but you know me - Escort mad  :;):    )

I think you have a good chance, and it will now come down to tactics, dice and deployment.

Good luck.

Shadow, you play Eldar I think. Quite normal you are escort mad. Ian deployed a damn single capital (an Eclipse) against me! And man, those escorts did hurt! OUCH.

I already have 14 escorts and one capita ship that is more or less an overgrown escort as well (Enforcer) with only 4 cruisers. So I tink i can count myself among the IN fleets with a seizable number of escorts. :D

Thx for the comments we will see how I fare. Now back to the essays so I can play the battle!

Cheers,

Xavi

Yes, Eldar and Orks.  Both of which need plenty of escorts.

As you said, you have enough of them for your fleet.  But be careful with your enforcer (thats the one based on a dauntless, right?).  Lightcruisers are not well armoured, and suffer damage easily.  I try to knock them out early on, and let their explosion rip through their own fleet.  Make sure you have an escort sqd screening it, if you do use it in a similar role to an escort.

I will be testing those dudes on Friday against an opposing chaos force (if both of us are keen enough to wake up from Thursday party, that is). Smallish change in the escort composition: 3 swords, 3 firestorms and 3 falchion in 2 mixed squadrons conaining vessels of the 3 kinds. Also a 4 strong cobra squadron.

Wish me luck dudes, I will need it :D

Cheers,

Xavi

Due to warp stprm (read: strong hangover) in both sides of the engagement the battle has been delayed until sunday

- Humm...I guess it'll be here, last night the party was over there...hummm ... by the way, shouldnt we be having a fight or something?
-...guess we should, but the Emperor already looked at us this week so we should be fine till saturday!
-...ok then, party on!
We'll wreck each others ships to bits saturday."
