Hi everyone! Well, specifically Epic-40k players. . . I was hoping that I could get a few of you to post your favorite 'tried and tested' detachments for whatever army you play in my forum. ?I posted a few of mine as a example in my Epic-40k section of my site http://www.knowltonsworld.com And thought it would be killer if other people posted some of their favorites and just maybe specified what they were primarily for. Eventually I'll write up detachment sheets I made up with Excel and post them like I did mine on my site. I thought it would be cool to keep some kind of a database of detachments. I'll be following this up with army lists for AT/SM-1 and SM-2/TL, and maybe even Epic-A. |

Well when you get to AT/SM-1, I may add some of my units. Eventhough we use a "hybrid" rule system, we stand by the SM-1 templates for the most part. ![]() |

Hmmm... maybe I'll just start that right now! ? To be honest, Legion, I hate the AT/SM templates. For the Space Marines and Orks it works pretty fine, but the Imperial Guard frustrates me and the chaos ones are just impossible. Usually I just use the counters to find out what makes up a detachments and buy my forces that way, but for the Orks you need those Warbosses so the templates are a must for them. Putting together a 2,000-3,000 point army for chaos with a Cultist warband is irritating, making sure you have the right number of lesser daemons sucks, and the way that some of the chaos units are made up makes them either too small or ineffective. I would like to see what you've done so I am going to start a thread now so please post your work when you find the time. |

Well, we have made them work with a little modification and have been using then for years. And for Chaos & Cultists too. And as I said we rarely use Daemons, but I have all the models. We like the SM & IG Templates, they are as close to "real" TO&Es as G/W has ever come. Well, I'm off to work. I'll post some of my templates later. The SM-1 Templates do give you a lot of options, so my basic company size units can vary based on support dets. Maybe I can post some units later tonight... ? ![]() |

Gandalf, I'll be moving Tyranids at CONQUEST so I'd be happy to transfer Nid Army lists to you. Why not? Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak. |

Cool! I started the threads. ? Thanks guys! I am particularly interested in both of your approaches since AT/SM had its' problems and I am curious to see what L-4 did, but also the Tyranids are kind of weird in Epic-40k, so I am curious as to what Maksim does. Having to make odd combinations of Tyranids (such as having at least three Tyranid Warriors or Hive Tyrants) limited the number of swarms I could field. Well, I've had a Dominatrix and Hierodule before so what am I complainig about... |

I have a webpage showing most of the Tyranid swarms I use in E-40k: http://au.geocities.com/markconz/epicga ... anids.html |

Markconz, I didn't know that was your site! I stumbled on it a few months ago and was in awe by how much was on it. You probably rival the Combat-Corner in content for Epic 40k. Killer job! |

Gandalf, I was going post on your site, but I thought I'd show everyone that may be interested in how our SM-1 "hybrid" TO&Es work. It's really not ?revolutionary and you'll see some SM-2 & E-40K influence. As I said we take what we like from all systems to suit our concepts of a "good" game. Well, I'll do two Chaos units, since that was a conundrum for you: ? ----------------------------------- [[ Chaos SM Legion - "Children of the Khorne" ]] - x2 CSM dets (4 stands with one Cdr each), - x2 Jugger dets (5 stands each), - x1 Beastman det. (5 stands each with one Cdr.), - x1 Champion Command stand with Land Raider upgrade. ? That's the basic unit. Support dets 0-2= - x1 Land Raider det. (4 AFVs) - x1 Rhino det. (5 AFVs). Artifact Weapons 0-2= - x1 det. of Daemon Engines of Khorne (4) - x1 det. of Cannons of Khorne (4). - x1 det. of 5 Bloodletters (but I'll probably use the points for off-board support). Total Battle Rating about 3000 pts. ? ----------------------------------- [[ Chaos Cult "Germanika" ]] - x2 dets. of Cultist Infantry (8 stands with one Cdr each), - x1 det. of Rhinos (8 APCs), - x1 det. of Leman Russes (6 MBTs), - x1 det. of Basilisks (2), - x1 det. of Robots (5), - x1 Coven Cmd stand with Rhino upgrade. - Plus 1 Artifact Weapon - probably a Lord of Battles. Total Battle Rating about 2500 pts. ? ----------------------------------- So That's our "Modified/Upgraded/Hybrid" TO&Es, however we are still working with the points values, a little bit. ![]() Again, nothing that "earth-shaking"... |

Hi! Very nice, Markconz! I especially like the round bases on the infantry type units. Primarch. |

Mojarn, Hybrid rules are still a work in progress, we talked about it today. We have things that we know we like, have used a lot, and work. But last time we played, we used the E-40K combat system. ? We generally like the E-A combat system and will probably use that and we still are not happy with morale rules. We may have to try DS as Primarch suggests, for morale. However, the downside is we can't find any time to play test. And as I said before, activation as used in E-A is really what our system is all about (we did that back with SM-1, in '90!), the rest is just picking and choosing what we like from SM-1, SM-2, E-40K and now E-A. Plus other games, here and there, as I mentioned in my original post a few months back. That list of rules is still valid. We are not really writing new rules, we're just modifying existing systems for our own evil ends! ![]() ![]() |

Well, then we are in a similar place... The rules take on a life of their own... |
