About painting, it being hard is quite the common myth. It is a lot easier than it seems,

Most challenging, there is just the simple issue of eyesight. I don't focus well on objects much closer than about 2 feet from my eyes. For painting 25/28s, I wear a pair of the most powerful reading glasses I could find, which works ok. Fortunately, my brother bought one of those silly looking head magnifier rigs, with a couple of LEDs for good measure. The highest magnification allows me to see the details on 6mm models quite well, although everything else gets pretty blurry--I have to push them up to find the paint again.

it just needs to change the way of thinking when painting from the one in 1:56's.

Changing one's thinking can be quite challenging! :{[] Most of the techniques I am used to using on larger figures are, while not quite useless, very limited in application. Also, I have to think about color differently. I am painting Catachan Jungle Fighters, atm, and did a prototype group with what I thought was a pretty contrasty selection of greens and tans. They look OK in the magnifier, but all appear more an undifferentiated dark grey without magnification, and at normal gaming eye distance, especially after a shading wash.

I painted a second group with what would I would normally consider to be clownishly bright colors, including the ridiculous red head covering, the dudes from planet Rambo seem to favor in GW paint examples(why stealth specialists would wear bright red on their heads baffles me--kinda screams "shoot here"). They looked much better, after !the wash knocked the brightness down just a touch. I will post some photos in the painting subforum after I figure out how to get decent photos of the little guys --photographing 6mm troops is also requires different thinking than larger figures, apparently.

@Dave I am close to the Vermont border (near Lebanon), but the travel time to Manchester, CT, is only about a half hour longer. Not a trip I would make every day, but close enough for once a month.
