I need to preface this by saying Im a horribly slow at painting due to a variety of reasons (damn real world getting in the way of hobby!) so if that disqualifies me from this as Im not going to get a lot of points done then so be it :p

So I have a couple of armies I want to make. Firstly Blood Angels as I have some marine tanks and bits from an ebay auction so thought it was good to carry them on. Secondly Adeptus Mechanicus (of Skitari and Titan varieties cos Ive always wanted to do an army of them and never could in 40k.

So I have some models but at the moment Im mostly putting them together and trying to sort out bases. I have a few done for the titan I have (and one more for a future titan). As you can see Im going for a city fight style for the bases:

Ive also got a couple done for a thunderhawk:

And for a flier (there will be another base that continues the building on for the second in the squadron):

I also wanted to leave on some actually painted models. A single stand of blood angels (yes I know not exactly prolific on the painting :p), the squad/honour markings were a bit of a pain at this scale and couldnt seem to get the camera to focus perfectly on models so small:

Perfect color on the angels. What red did you use?

Great bases, especially the titan base with the large blast crater

This thread needed more red

Really, REALLY nice result on the Blood Angels! I'm looking forward to seeing the Reaver and those bases all finished up, too. They should be superb, if current look is anything to go by.

Thanks for all the kind comments guys.

Jimmy, the red was (over a grey basecoat) valejo air hull red, followed by game air scarlet red and finally game air bloody red. Finally some painted highlights of valejo red (cant remember the colour number).

Any help would be appreciated carlisimo, the camera is pretty old. Its a fujifilm finepix S6500fd. Im going to have to find if I still have the manual or look up what to do with it. Cameras arent really my thing (though Id love to know how to use one well).

Apparently the manual is online. Macro is on page 74 - don't zoom when using it. It says there's also super-macro, which is meant for taking photos 5mm from the lens - play around with it.

If you can't get enough light on the models for good photos, buy a Gorillapod ("hybrid" size) or some other cheap tripod and use the self-timer (pg. 88) with the camera's sensitivity (ISO) set to 100 (pg. 85) for the highest quality. You might have to go to manual mode (pg. 67) because if it's dim and you're using a low ISO setting, you might need a long exposure - a photo lasting a few seconds (you'd also want to use the widest aperture possible, i.e. the lowest f/x.x number, probably f/2.8). You can do that in manual mode by adjusting the shutter speed until the exposure indicator is around 0. Set a two-second self-timer, push the button, and step away so you don't cause anything to vibrate.

That might be too concise but it's worth figuring out, if only for this hobby!

Nice work so far! For photographing Epic models I find it's actually best to stand back a bit and use the zoom on the camera. I usually stand about 3-4 feet away, select highest resolution possible, and zoom in a bit, then crop out the edges on the PC later. And the more light the better.

So what size base did you use to fake that 40k squad as Epic?
Utterly Awesome
