This is my Tale of Epic Gamers 2012 thread.

I already hit a snag, in that I'm going to need to do some work on my basement. Unfortunately that's also where my painting station is setup. I'm hoping it doesn't cost me too much time. (Now that I got my excuses out of the way first ... onto the project).

4000ish points of Steel Legions Imperial Guard.

Image

12 Chimera
9 Basilisks
10 Leman Russ (inc 1 commissar)
3 Hydra
3 Hellhounds
3 Superheavies (inc 1 commisar)
6 Rough Riders (inc 1 Commisar)
3 Ratling Snipers
3 Ogryns
5 Sentinels
39 Imperial Guard Infantry (inc 2 commisars & 3 commanders)
8 Imperial Guard Stormtroopers (inc 1 commisar)

Total: 104 Miniatures

Which should make up:
Companies:
1 Regimental HQ (500 pts)
2 Infantry Company (500 pts)
1 Tank Company (650 pts)
1 Super-Heavy Tank Company (500 pts)
1 Artillery Company (650 pts)

Company Upgrades:
1 Hellhound Squadron (125 pts)
3 Flak (150 pts)
1 Ogryn (50 pts)
1 Sniper (50 pts)

Support Formations:
1 Rough Rider Platoon (150 pts)
1 Stormtrooper Platoon (200 pts)
1 Sentinel Squadron (100 pts)

Total: 3625 pts

I've also have some titans and ~6 thunderbolts I can paint to make it over 4000 pts (they aren't pictured).

I'm about 1/2 way done putting sand on their bases (didn't take pictures).

I've only done a little bit of painting at this scale (some old Eldar I was never very happy with).

For infantry:
My current plan is to undercoat them all grey. Dry brush them lighter gray. Pick out some detail with metaliic (boltgun metal). Wash the infantry with black. Maybe a very light dry brush of gray. Pick out faces and hands with a skin tone. (and do more colors/detail on the command stands/commisars). Then wash the bases with a dark brown, and dry brush them with a lighter brown. (then flock the bases with blotches of green flock)

For tanks:
Undercoat grey. Pick out metallic details and paint some green camo blotches. Wash them Green. Dry brush grey and light green. Do the bases the same as the infantry ones.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

That looks scarily neat and ordered :D Painting plan sounds good, not sure how grey washed green will look, will be interested to see.

Long ago, I discovered that I needed to plan how I was going to store the miniatures before I painted them. Or else they tended to just collect dust on my painting table.

In fact, I got lax about this, and I'm now being burned by it. I need to get everything out of my basement and I have 100's of painted miniatures I now need to figure out how to store! grumble grumble grumble.

It surprisingly effective. Grey basecoat + thinned out green wash, dry, wash with badab black = IG happiness :)

I just finished the 1st 250 points (and I'm about 80% done with the second 250 points). An Imperial Guard Infantry Company.

Photos were taken with my cell phone.

The other good news, I found some more Imperial Guard. Mixed in with some of my "old-style" (Space Marine version) epic stuff I found some Epic 40K era miniatures.

Found:
1 Shadowsword
3 Hydras
~6 Chimeras
~10 Leman Russ (some might be demolishers).

I'm still in this endeavor. :-) Here's what I've completed up to July.

I now have 750 points finished (except for some flocking). All my infantry companies are done. I also did 2 infantry commissar stands.

I'm about 1/2 done with another 350 points worth of infantry (snipers, ogryns, & stormtroopers).

Now, what you've been waiting for ... pictures.

A top down look at the Guard arrayed for battle:

Another look at the glorious infantry:

Blue Company (so called due to the blue psyker in the command stand):
Note: I assembled these a long time ago, I believe some of these might have been meant to be squads of Support Weapons (anything with 2 autocannons on the base could be used as a Support Weapon stand. This is why there is a large number of autocannons in this company)

Yellow Company:

Grey Company (note: I just noticed the command stand is facing the wrong way; extolling his men to greatness, no doubt):

And a lone shot of one of the Commissars:

Some of the focusing is a bit off, but I think they are much better pictures than the last set I posted.

I hope to catch up (2500 pts next month), since I expect tanks to paint up much faster.

Looking good, nice to see autocannons on the stands. Good luck with the 2500pt ;D

I'm a week behind in posting August "results". I must admit, I finished the last bits of in September, but I'll put them toward my August totals anyways. :-)

Not pictured (boo hiss, I forgot to bring them when took pictures of them, I'll rectify that soon):
8 Stormtroopers w/1 Comissar
3 Ogryns
3 Ratling Snipers

Onto the Tanks, the backbone of Imperial Might:

3 Hellhound Flame Tanks

There appears to be some sort of issue with embedding too many images in a single post. So I'll split the tank pictures up between a few posts. (I hope that works).

3 Hydra Flak Wagons - I can't get these to embed properly (follow the link below to see them ... sorry)

6 Basilisk Self-Propelled Artillery

10 Leman Russ Mainline Battle Tanks (1 w/Commissar) (not embedding either)

3 Superheavy Tanks, 1 Stormshadow and 2 Bane Blades (not embedding either)

2 Overall Shots of the Tanks (not pictured, Infantry (left the box elsewhere))

I believe this gives me right around 3100 points (600 point OVER where I needed to be this month! woohoo!)

Next month, I'm onto a Rough Rider platoon, 3 more Basilisks and 12 Chimera's. I have 5 Sentinels, but I might wait until I paint my titans to paint those.

I also found some more Epic Miniatures when I needed to move all my miniature supplies out of my basement. So I think I'll assemble (and paint) 3 more SHV tanks (2 Stormshadows, 1 Baneblade), 10 more Leman Russ, 3 more Hydras, 3 more Chimeras, 3 Leman Russ Demolishers, and 4 Thunderbolt Fighters. I think that should get me pretty close to 6000 points.

Are those Basilisk shields blended? They look great! Actually, they all do.
