Greeting all, I've had multiple attempts at TOEG, I think I stated with a Blood Angels force in 2005, Nurgle Titan Legion in 2006, imperial guard in 2009 and Raven guard in 2011. All projects failed due to work, a shortage of gaming opportunities and subsequently a lack of interest. I'm going to be away again a bit this year but I need to have a painted army before I move at the end of the year so I can get involved in Epic gaming in either ACT, NSW or VIC. I'll post the following failed and stalled armies as a "wall of shame" to guilt me into completing a viable force this time around. blood angels 2005 ![]() Nurgle AMTL 2006 ![]() ![]() brief foray into 40k space wolves 2009 ![]() Imperial guard attempts x 2 in 2009 and 2010 - see one lot even made the games table ![]() ![]() Back to 40k with Red Scorpions 2010 ![]() ![]() Raven guard 2011 ![]() And recently Salamanders in 2012 done as a test for planned purchase of forum-ware SM proxies still TBC ![]() A number of others have gone MIA in simple green over the years without even a photograph to record their demise. Unfortunately my loving (long suffering?) wife has recently imposed a rule that I can't buy any more toys until I paint what I currently have. The argument was settled when I said "Its my damn money woman and I'll do as I plea... **SCHMACK** No, your right.. I do own a few already that I suppose I could paint first.." This minor backlog of work equates to a completely chockers, four draw filing cabinet and random boxes full of epic, warhammer, 40k & 20mm moderns. Therefore I've decided on a first in, first out policy so the place to start will be my first ever army/figs and that was a space marine army that I got with the early Epic Space Marine boxed set. Test stands of my Crimson Fists will be up shortly, This time around I'll cheat a little and work towards a net epic force as It will allow greater inclusion of allies to break up the paint pallet somewhat. I'm also going to make a start now whilst I have free time and a passion for painting. Good luck to all other TOEG12 participants, may the best procrastinator win! THIS TIME I WILL NOT FAIL... maybe ![]() Cheers Geoff |

Ok, time to get productive whilst I have motivation. I did up a test stand and rhino. I'm not sure I can repeat the Crimson Fist Iconography (red fist on black circle with red border) on their shoulder pads at this scale, its bit beyond me I think. I'm going to look into transfers for the vehicles but I'll probably settle with a red circle on the troops. I still need to wash and tidy up the base, I'll probably wash the metal with devlan mud as well just to tone it down some. The main colour is Necron Abyss with dry brushed Ultramarine Blue, then a wash of Lich Purple to tone down the highlights. Red bits are the foundation red (name??) with blood red highlights in places. ![]() ![]() I then got a bit carried away and base coated all that I had cleaned and assembled so far. In boxes there is probably 3-4 times this amount waiting to be re-based/assembled. ![]() These won't be the best looking marines but the goal is to get them to table top standard. |

Heehee! Sounds like you're other half has got the right idea Ortron! I Work on the same principle as you're trying out: no new toys till the old one's are finished or sold, and - to date- it's worked really well: I've got 8 painted armies out of the deal thus far :-) Best of luck. If you're looking for inspiration my painting blog starts with a Crimson Fists Army, yours are looking pretty cool thus far I say. Yrs, Ryan |

You managed far more than I ever did barring the one year I turned to Squats. I am trying the same approach and trying to buy nothing bar paint and brushes and glue. Good show on the test pieces, they look great. |

Cheers Guys. MoK, Shame we never caught up when you were in Brisvegas and I do recall your CF marines. I will definitely check them out for inspiration. Today I also did a search through my books, white dwarf mags and online for CF fluff/background. It would seem that CF vets have both fists painted whilst the basic troopers only have their left hand painted red, also seems the helmet stripe has gone. Not sure if I'll do it on my guys yet. One question I'm unsure of is how are they supposed to indicate which company a squad belongs to? The novel "Rynn's World" suggests coloured shoulder rims like normal codex marines but none of the other books or images show that level of detail. What did you do for yours.. Wait I'll check.. *** Opens MOK's painting blog** Cool, I gather you didn't bother with individual Coy markings but I rather like the way you painted the panels or detail on the vehicles to make them stand out distinguish them from dark Ultramarines. I'm going to pinch at least two ideas from yours blog already - firstly the red on the vehicle details and second is that some of my old school speeders will probably become Typhoons using some spare rockets I have. Thanks for the advice. Finally @ V, don't be too harsh on your efforts mate, you have brought this community some mad creations over the years. I seem to recall you did a Gargant big mob one year as well, some cool titan conversions, the "grass skirt thousand son tower of tzeentch"? I all honesty I hope you get a little side tracked because a Vanvlak painting blog just isn't a Vanvlak blog unless there is something in there converted from a household appliance or similar random items. All the best. |

Somebody remembers the grass skirt - and the big mob too (I have to admit I had forgotten those!) Sniff! Thanks Ortron. I pledge to do my best to get sidetracked. In the constructive way. Now where's that old ironing board...... ![]() |
