Hello all, short time lurker, 1st time poster :)

I have recently been keen on getting into EA, I bought a heap of models from and old friend and I was looking for someone to paint me an army as I didnt want to stuff up nice Epic models, especially some that can be hard to get. I didnt have much success with finding a painter as many have a very full workload so I decided to give it a whirl.

I decided to start with a marine army because the models are fairly prevalent and I wont feel too bad if I stuff them up.

As a basic theme for the army I am going to use my 40k Golden Angels which are based on a Dark Angel Deathwing Army. I am a very slow painter and am generally too precice for my own good but lets see how we go.

After reading alot I have absorbed that a good basing technique can make or break an Epic army. Keeping this in mind I thought about what sort of base colour would contrast well with a mostly Gold/black paint scheme and Snow came to mind. I have never done snow bases before so it will be another challenge for me. In addition to the snow I am going to have a bit of an urban theme with some street lamps, posts, some ruins and mahinery to give the bases some much needed texture and highlights. I also wante to create a 'slushy' look to parts of the road where vehicles have passed and pushed the snow aside so that was another challenge and I think they look reasonably nice.

Anyways on with what I have done

This is my 40k Army that the Epic army will be based on

1st Tactical Detatchment

Where to from here?

I want to do a full company so I will need
another Tac Detachment
Devastators
Assault

From there some terminators and I dont want to think further :)

It is traditional to explain how you got your gold colour :) Is it straight out of the pot?

Well lets not shoot tradition out of a battlecannon :)

Black undercoat
Light drybrush GW Shining Gold - this gives a nice base for the next layer to build on
Heavy dry/wet brush GW Shining Gold - this should cover 99% of the model, some slight painting may be required for difficult areas
Wash Old GW Chestnut Ink
Light Drybrush GW Shining Gold - add depth

Then onto the details :)

Pretty easy in the big scheme of things

Gorgeous work dude, very nice indeed.  Love the the icy bases, and I'm also a fan of a bit of terrain on bases. Looks great I think on Epic models, there's enough room to 'set the scene' a bit wheras I think it can look a bit crowded on 40K models.

Can't wait to see what else you're going to add!  Quite a fun thing when you have the same army in two scales is to replicate your 40k force in 6mm and have a comparison shot!  Makes you realise just how big the forces are in Epic!

It's been said (in the rulebook no less) that an Engagement in Epic is roughly equivalent to a whole 40K game, so often a 40K army is about the size of one Epic formation.  But I'm sure most of you TacCommers have heard that one before.

As the 1st Tactical Detachment searched the city for the enemy the Devastator Detatchment took up positions within a ruined powerstation

It is taking me awhile to paint these as I am taking a fair bit of time on the bases. It is quite enjoyable thinking of a bit of a theme for each of the units whilst still keeping the overall theme in mind

Thanks mate

I played a simple game about 6 months ago with some borrowed models and I am looking forward to playing some more when I get an army painted.
