No, it's the back half of a searchlight from a 40k Basilisk. Although two SM shoulder pads would give an interesting shape. Something to keep in mind if I ever do a Plague Tower with a bell on top.

Anyway, I did some experiments with magnetising bases:

The optimum seems to be a 0.8x3mm magnet on each side of a plastic infantry base, while the Beast felt safer with them doubled-up. What's really handy is the 3mm magnets I've got at the moment turned out to be 0.8mm thick instead of 1mm so two of them are exactly the height of a GW base or 1.6mm Fenris disc. Even better, the thickness of the bottom of the holes in a GW base is 0.8mm so new infantry stands can have the magnets totally hidden under the models.

As an aside, the table setup for last night's game against brokenbayonet's Eldar:

P.S. The searchlight can be seen on this sprue, second row from bottom, slightly left of centre:

I'll have a look, I had a few set aside as potential bits for Plague Reapers myself.

kyussinchains - there's a couple spare, PM me your postal address. I think you may have bought some Drop Pods at some stage but a confirmed address would be safer. :)

Llamahead - ta!

Onward! I've been playing around a bit with the eventual 3k goal and ended up taking out the planned Warhound and summoned Daemons in favour of having more activations. The group shot so far looks like this:

Image

Image

Left flank going back, you've got the Zombie/Nurgling infestation, a basic DG Retinue in Land Raiders and a five-strong Contagion Engine formation.

Right flank going back, a DG Retinue with two DG Havoc stands (currently just some black-painted CSM, and Trolls for the DG) plus a DG Defiler, a tricked-out DG Retinue with two Havocs, either a Daemon Prince or Warlord, a DG Defiler and (due to odd leftover points) a Dreadnought, followed by a lone Plaguereaper, a Plaguereaper with DG Defiler and a DG Defiler formation.

I like DG Defilers, by the way. :P

Rephrased, their awesome even without being the sole source of AA fire in the EpicUk DG list...

However that's with quite a few 'extras' left out, such as more Trolls, Papa Nurgle and some Beasts and way more Plaguebearers than I'd realised:

Plus a few ganked Terminators that could be co-opted into a Death Guard Terminator formation:

Next up for construction is likely to be the first Plaguereaper, here's a mockup:

The gun is getting a bit similar to the Contagion Engines so I may look for a different barrel piece, on the other hand it gives the Daemon Engines a bit of a thematic link.

An alternative for the smaller guns would be to have three small towers carrying something representing the Heavy Bolters and Lascannon.

What model is being used as the basis of the Plaguereaper?
It's very nice.

The Plaguereaper chassis are Epic 40k Shadowswords without the turrets or sponsons.

I like that mock-up! :)

Your list runs lower on activations then my planned TS cult (just by one though, hehe)!
Do you think they got the staying power to make up for it?

I've not played a lot of 3k games but they're definitely very resilient.

On the other hand, I just discovered that the Epic UK lists have been updated and between Deamons, Defilers and Zombies getting cheaper and Rhinos being available as well as Land Raiders it looks like I can fit at least another activation in. :)

Doing the sums, by replacing Land Raiders with Rhinos the updated DG list lets me give Daemonic Pact to two of the DG Retinues plus a Champion and an Icon Bearer to the BTS plus a Daemonic Pool of 8 Plaguebearers, 3 Beasts and a Great Unclean One.

Still only eight activations, though, but the 'accumulator' BTS formation can get a bit scary...

A minor update - after deciding that Vallejo Coarse Pumice was much too coarse for Epic basing i got hold of a tub of Sandy Paste and that seems to be just the job.

Attached are an earlier test on a 2p piece which has dried and the still-wet paste on a Beast of Nurgle and centipede thingy.

That looks like good stuff, I'll definitely be picking up a pot of that.

Looks good, but that method requires a lot of work. How does it look painted?
