Put another way: a broken Space Marine formation of six units that rallies gets 6 BMs, while a broken Ork formation of six units that rallies gets 3BMs.

I know there were proposals to bring the LatD in line with the redux changes, some did go through while some did not. I'd start with a PM to Steve54 and MikeT and see what they say.

Loose language, just keep reading that paragraph. It would have been clearer if there was different terms for unit and stat line in the rules, yes. Characters have stat lines but aren't units in the sense of INF, AV, LV, WE and AC are.

Character's aren't units. They're a add-on/upgrade/wargear for other units. If the Lord's unit is destroyed it comes back when its unit comes back.

I've played 2 5ks with Eldar, not exhaustive by any means but nothing was readily apparent.

If I had to guess, maybe the fact that they're glass cannons coupled with less places to hide with more troops on the table? Or more stuff getting shot at earlier with more enemy activations?

I'm fairly certain the GTS note was added by EpicUK Jon so the pinpoint could be used against non-WE units, it wasn't intended to be used against aircraft (there's no AA value after all, and MW firepower can hit AC).

The rules are spread out, but I don't see them as contradictory. 3.1.3 is telling you what happens when troops dismount and fight in an assault. It doesn't mention what happens when troops stay embarked, hence the FAQ later on.
