Among E40K fans, I think we agree that _defining_ the troops as basic troops plus modifiers is good. But they could have had summaries, for use in-game, that gave the resulting stats for each one.

It doesn't matter once you're familiar, but I've thought the same thing.

The other side is that some of us like those kinds of tests in games. Blood Bowl, Song of Blades and Heroes, Dragon Rampant, and many others have the possibility of not doing anything. (Warmaster did too, right?) So rather than the idea that this is really bad always, I'm willing to accept that some...

The Epic 40K box was one of the best game boxes GW has had, in my opinion. And opening up a GW big box has always been a lot of fun.

I'm painting some miscellaneous epic figures, and wondered if I could get someone's eyes on one of these tiny figures. This Chaos Space Marine: http://www.galactic-intrigue.com/epicollector/Pages/2-Catalog/Chaos-Catalog/Chaos-Photos/Excomm-ChaosSpaceMarine.jpg He has a top-knot on his helmet. In bac...

The model on the Battles book page 33 has the gun pointed forward. Do you think it has been modified? Mine (not the old plastic ones) all have guns facing down.

Ork bikes cost 13, buggies cost 11, and they are identical except for basing (which isn't relevant) and range. So if it is a typo, there is more than one. The fluff text in the Armies book mentions "impressively armed Ork warbikes". I was going to say that I didn't remember discussion of t...

I haven't done much with Orks in Epic 40,000, but am looking into them now. The bikes really have a 45cm range? And the buggy is the same, but just 30cm? Huh. That just surprises me. Is that what they did in 40K at the time? I'd imagined buggies at 30, bikes at 15. Has anyone mounted buggies like bi...

Just occurred to me I hadn't uploaded my Marine and Eldar unit stats in hexes. See the rules page:

Has anyone made any War Engine equivalents to the detachment sheets? Something with the info from the data in the Armies book, but letting you write in specific weapon choices? We kept looking for War Engine info on the summary sheets I made up, then remembering they weren't there and looking in the...

I just noticed that the formatting of my above illustration didn't work out at all. I'll try again. A..................................2 A..................................2 All As have range to 1, and B has range to all 2s. So all As can shoot, and all 2s can be hit. A.................................

Here's an effect of E40K's firing procedure that I believe exists, though is not typically very important. As I understand it, all units that have range to an enemy target unit may fire. And all enemy target units that are in range of a firing unit may be hit. So you can have this situation: One sid...

Oh, I'm pretty familiar with Quar. :)

I have toyed with getting 6mm Quar, but I don't think I'd do it with Epic. I won't do it, but if I did, I'd actually consider boardgame rules.

You definitely want narrative, and what that should be should (IMO) be dependent on what the game is trying to present. What happens to a tank might be important at one level, what happens to a squadron or company or battalion at another. The best thing that happened to my gaming recently was Chain ...

I considered just using them for support weapons, but I've got lots of those, too, and I wasn't really looking for something so special purpose. So I'll either mix Guardian 3 above with Guardian 2 and call the whole thing 30cm 1fp, or use Guardian 3 for that and have some with Guardian 2 mixed in wi...

For me, it is all about the miniatures and fun. I have miniatures asking to be used, and I think my wife would like some troops with better range. So I don't mind it being anachronistic. I don't follow 40K anyway.

What are black guardians?
